It appears that for an individual to ship a firearm to an ffl, fedex is the only option now, is that correct? And if it is a handgun it must be shipped overnight. I am seeing some extreme shipping rates for some of the guns that finished auction on gunbroker over the weekend, the poor guy who bought the mark 23 and mags may be looking at like $225. It’s crazy. What do you folks generally use for shipping to an ffl? Should I be looking at having an ffl do it? It will add at least 30 dollars, but may save money if it can go through the postal service or something. I had seen some people use shipmygun but I have never used them. Thoughts? I sure appreciate any input.

I have used a local FFL for the past several years and they were excellent, ground shipping +$25 transfer fee plus they handled boxing it up. I handed them a copy of the FFL, filled out some basic info, and off it went. In the last month, they changed their policy and now everything goes 2-day air + $50 transfer fee. I'm looking at shipmygun going forward. The noose is tightening around shipping firearms.

That’s kind of what I am seeing. At least fedex lets you do next day air without sending from an ffl, so you save that fee, but it is still really expensive. At least I am not alone!

My FFL ships handguns in a USPS box , plus a $15. Transfer fee, long guns he sends UPS, a little more than handgun due to size. Easy, insured, legal.

An individual can still ship a long gun through the mail to an FFL or to an individual in the same state (at least in free states)

Honestly for the $15. FFL fee, my place boxes, and goes to the shipper. Plus it’s an FFL to FFL transfer, so I’m done, and don’t need to run to town. That’s well worth the $15.

Ok Guys, Lets clear this up right now, because these boneheads have been so intimidated by the powers above them that now the shipping entities are changing the rules to cover there own butts. Imagine that, Huh? This is the Law from our Government. Voted on and Legislated. END OF STORY, HO HA. If you cut thru the confusing verbage and actuall ask an ATF official, they will tell you that it is perfectly legal for a gun owner to ship his personal firearm to a liscenced dealer for repair or to sale it for him. In My case as a class 7 manufacturer you can send it directly to me for Upgrade. I then will log it in to my books, do my thing to it, and send it directly back to you (the Gun Owner) perfectly Legal, and log it back out to you! Here is the ATFs Rule. The rule is that they know it is a gun ( The Carrier) , but do not put any label on it saying it is a gun so that some theive does not take it and that it reaches its finall destination. BUT THAT IS NOT THE END OF THE STORY. Here is why! Here is USPS Policy Here is UPS Policy. Here is FEDEX Its not the Law guys or the ATF, It is the Carriers who are the problem. They want everyone to send there firearms thru liscenced dealers. Hope that helps. So if you want to bypass a lot of greife just find you a local dealer, befreind them and use them to go around all the bs redtape crap that the carriers have imposed on us. THEY ARE THE PROBLEM. r

My dealer shipped a rifle for me today. Went usps. Cost with $1200 insurance was $96.00. It’s been a long time since I have shipped a rifle. I was shocked.
