If she wears the Fanny pack running that’s in her medal picture, there's a ton of choices.

Joe, she will like the S&W shield EZ, look at the photo I'm sending you of a pack to carry it in. Can't disclose it yet. She will like it.

Ok,, she has a lot of good experience. Excellent.
Back to the carry part.
The UnderTech Underwear is a TOP notch type of carry for a runner.

I have carried both a Kahr P9 and a Smith 442 in a fanny pack while running and cycling. They are both light and functional; when paired with a proper fanny pack made with an internal holster they carry very well. I carry them for dog protection mostly, but they will do the job for two legged threats as well.

We call the S&W EZs gateway guns. They teach the inexperienced shooters that that can run a gun. When they get over that hump, size and weight matters. You need your own LCP II or LCP Max. She can try them. The LCP 22 is slick too. All are small and light. We recently did some ballistic gel testing with some of the CCI Critical Defense 380 ammo and were thoroughly impressed.

She has already tried the shield and shield EZ. She says they are just too heavy. This was her winning the 25k FrozenSasquatch Jan 6, 2024. She likes the UltrAspire vest much better than her fanny pack, but I’m just looking for the lightest (and most functional) pistol. Looking for something she will carry because they won’t do any good if she doesn’t carry it.

That’s why I was looking at the lcp II. None of the shops here had either the lcp II or the max. Just the original lcp. Now I see that the lcp II was discontinued when the max came out and they kept the orig lcp. The whole reason I liked the lcpII was the trigger safety and 6 round mag.

Many of the autos that have higher capacity (10 or more) the ammo weighs enough to make a heck of a difference bouncing. When I run….I sweat….when you push hard your hands and such won’t be as responsive. I wouldn’t want any kind of derringer or mini revolver. I had one of the older LCP 380. Tiny little thing. They don’t weigh much and would probably work fine. She’s in shape and if she needed something it more than likely just needs to cause a distraction so she can get away. I wouldn’t put a ton of weight/thought in caliber. Just simple, small, and light.

I picked up a DB 9 4th gen a few years ago. So far has run 500 rds or so with range ammo without a glitch. 6 +1 9mm . Small gripframe but you say your daughter is all of 5 ft so should fill her hard comfortably! Paid less then $250.00 too!

The Ruger LCR +P 38 in my Carhart T-shirt pocket right now is 13.5oz.. The lightest LCR. How does this compare to the lightest Smith offering that is similar ? I do not know what the lightest of the little pistols weigh. My G43x a class above in size and weight. My Kahr P-9 long gone. The little Beretta wasn't here long enough to form an opinion on. A quick check, shows a Kahr PM-9 w/empty mag goes 16oz..

I can’t help but think about Laken Riley while reading this thread….the runner in Athens Georgia who was murdered while running on the UGA campus. Hopefully this discussion will prepare someone for the danger that is out there.

If you think a P380 would fit the bill let me know. I know where a new one is for cheap. I’ll check today and make sure it’s still there just in case.

It's a near and dear to me subject. In the late '70's and into '90's I ran/biked, backpacked and climbed. My older Sis was rider whipper-in in the Loudoun Va. Hunt. She also timber raced and trained her own horses. I left a Jim Fixx book at her house. She called and asked if the principles of training would work for horses. Some calls and research, a cautious YES given. She couldn't afford to by well blodded hunters and teach them to go fast, she bought horses from the track, retired, who had speed. She trained them to jump. Per our adapting human training to horses. She was leading lady rider of year, Timber Racing curcuit Va/Md for some years and a room of trophies. My younger Sis still runs and my niece competes in events same as OP's girl. My concerns the same. My little Sis has one of the ultra-lite Smiths.

Before a firearm being a legal option for me, well if deemed needed one went, but anyway, blades were my best friend before firearms. A Gerber MK1 was my companion many times. A Tekna ultra lite diving style knife with plastic sheath and velcro straps for arm/leg wear next best. It stayed attached to various climbing harness or pack straps. The Tekna lives on a nephews jet-ski now.

Bula just beat me to it. If a firearm is uncomfortable or unuseable, get a good blade. And I do mean spend near as much on the blade as you would a firearm. From the looks of the young lady I dont want her woopin my butt and I danged sure dont want to attack her if she has a knife or firearm. Double tough! Thunder Wear is another brand of CCH clothing and I have been looking at those belly band things though I have never used one.
