So, I've prepared myself to be raked over coals. But, I'm having to add one of these.
Living rural with a serious rattlesnake problem, it'll come in handy.
Will have one in a couple weeks. It'll be just the ticket on my SxS and around my ponds...

They certainly look more useful than a judge. I think it’d be great for your stated purpose. I have looked at them but I already have a little youth single shot .410 so I passed. I wish they would make all .410’s with a .45 bore so the .45 colts can be shot through them in case of an armadillo or such.

I've got a Judge 6.5" and really like it. But, this one was really cheap and I think will be good around my acreage...

Look at the magtech 2.5" brass 410 cases. They take a LP primer and are just fine for your needs and save ya from paying a buck a round when you can find them.

I bought one when they first came out. It shoots reasonably well with cast bullets considering the 410 length chamber

I have the SW Governor. It does fair with SAA level 45 Colt loads. Armadillos at 15 feet better start praying. This one has about a 3.5 to 4 inch barrel. Running hotter 45 Colt ammo through it almost ruins the brass. Does surprisingly well with #6 410 ammo. Field rats and rattlers at 10 to 15 feet off the mower are no problem. A really big rattler might require a second shot to settle my nerves. I handload my 410 ammo. I use cards and wads, hand press the primers in, use recovered shot and roll crimp with a hand drill then seal with candle wax.

Before Covid, I bought three cases of 410 Shells from Grafs. Shots of 6, 7.5 and 9 at under $7/25. Think they're Rio Brand, but bet they work fine in this little gun.

Picked this gun up this morning.
Extremely well made for the price. Clearly, we're not talking TC Contender here.
Pure speculation on my part on why they put a scope base on a 410? My suspicion is we'll see these in other calibers.
I will say it's the dirtiest gun I've ever bought new. Quite a job getting the bore clean.
Will test various 410 Ammo and eventually 45 Colt...
Report to follow...

At 10' this gun kept Wolf #9 Shot tight enough to riddle a piece of printer paper.
At 15' shot started to spread out, but still plenty good for snakes, etc.
At both ranges the wad went thru the target.
I might try buckshot and slugs later. Will try 45 Colt for sure...

So, shot some 45 Colt. Have to say I was stunned by the accuracy.
At 25 yards groups were an incredible 1.5". Very uniform and only 1.2" left of aim.
Loads were 250 grn Coated SWC Cast over 8.5 grn Unique. Velocity averaged 949 fps.

I load the 2.5 inch (2.35 actual measurement) Magtec brass cases with 1/2 oz #9 shot for my 20 inch model savage 24. I load with 2400 powder and old time wads, get good groups out to 25 yards on quail.A lot cheaper than factory loads now a days.
