Well at least it will be. I have been talking to Lee at The Arms Room about converting my Model 71 to a takedown and adding a Ruger No 1 quarter rib to it to mount a scout scope. Do I need a takedown? Not really but I have always wanted one and they just look cool. I think the Ruger rib will look a little better than just a picatinney rail on it. I will use the Alaska Arms QD rings on it and maybe a Vortex or Leupold scout scope on it. The rifle is not a collector grade and has extra holes so I am not mutilating a pristine example. Bad thing is the 6 month to a year wait.

The wait is the worst part of it. I like the idea of the Ruger quarter rib.

Are you keeping it a 348 or going with a 458, 475 or 510 caliber? I had Wayne at Oregunsmithing do a browning 71 I had into a 16.5” 50-110, and I love it.

I have a Win 1892 trapper take down in 45 colt so sort of similar guns. The classic Winchester style of unscrewing the magazine tube a long ways so the action can be twisted apart is a bit cumbersome in my opinion. With my gun I wish the barrel and magazine were more like 18”-20”, the same length as the stock and action so when it is broken down they were equal lengths. Skinner sights makes a very cool takedown case with the idea of having you rifle, a box of ammo, and a few survival things all together and can be tossed behind the seat of your truck. Having the barrel be 4” shorter than the action seems sort of wasted if you know what I mean. Just make them equal and go.
As it is with this short little rifle I just never take it down, it is still extremely snug fit and small enough as it is to just leave be. Very cool handy rifle that has all sorts of power available if needed.

Sounds like a pretty cool project.
I have a couple of new Takedown Winchesters, an 1892 and an 1886. I am not in love with the takedown feature, but it's nice for cleaning. It's not needed unless you are traveling in the most tight of planes or cars, but it's a "nice" (fancy) touch.
It also goes out of adjustment with repeated use and needs to be tightened, or it feels like the forend is loose when handling the rifle.

I heard somewhere that Lee Hadaway retired. If he's still working I might take a mini 30 to him.

Ronnie if I may, here's some of Lee's work from a few years ago I like it……a lot! I think my next project will be to grab a new 1894 in .357 magnum and have them do their 10mm conversion. I would have to add the takedown feature to it also. I need to ask Lee if they could do it in a 10mm magnum. Ronnie

I got the Ruger Number 1 rib in and ordered a Burris 2.75x scout scope. I am going to send it tomorrow and start the countdown.
