has anyone used this with success? i am striping a muzzleloader shotgun stock and the factory finish is incredibly thick and obnoxious to sand off. this is not an old time muzzleloader but a newer one that is high gloss blue has a high gloss finish that scares the begeezees out of the turkeys. I'm stripping the stock and using a minwax antiquing oil finish and rust browning the barrel to give it a hunting finish. any help would be appreciated.

Aircraft Paint Stripper, available at auto parts stores. Use the proper PPE, because it's nasty stuff! It works exceptionally well, though - it will even remove parkerizing if left on long enough!

What nicholst55 said!! It is really good stuff! But be sure you don't do it in the house...that stuff has an overpowering odor

I've used the Citristrip, worked good for me.

I have used citristrip on “modern” shotgun stocks. It worked as advertised. Plan to do 2-3 applications to get full finish removal. Probably not as easy or efficient as some of the mentioned strippers with higher levels of VOC’s.

Citristrip is about all I use, mostly because it's not so harsh. I use it most frequently on bamboo fly rods 100+ years old that I'm restoring. Citristrip is gentle on 100+ year old hide glues. I used it on one pre-war Mauser and a 1900-ish Haenel-Rasch Sporter and a fella couldn't have asked for more. I doubt their finishes were as tenacious as a modern, high gloss finish. I'd be getting rid of that as well, I hate them.
