Hello all, I'm a longtime lurker, here everyday actually. I have a FA-97 in 44 special, I casted up a bunch of 270 gr HP'S for my 629 44 mag. Well, I ran them through the wrong sizing die, and now I have a pile of checked,PC'd, sized bullets, that are to small for the mag and sized for my 97. ( LOL ).. Any one have a load for 270 gr bullets in a 44 special. No need for a fire breather, and who knows, maybe I'll find a new favorite bullet for my second favorite gun.My FA M97, 357 mag holds that spot. Thanks all

The Brian Pearce article in this group is the standard reference.... www.goodrichfamilyassoc.org/44_Special_Articles/All of them should be required reading for owners of a 44 Special. There is another Pearce article with similar loads. I can't recall if it contained bullets in the 270-285 grain range. There's also LoadData.com,. which is worth its weight in gold.

Howdy, welcome to the forum! I use the Ranch Dog 432-265-RF in 44 Special out of my Blackhawk. I've had good accuracy with 4.6 Bullseye and 5.5 Unique. Both of those are regular pressure loads, with the latter being max for standard pressure 44 Special.

I load a SAECO 265 GC over 9.0 gr of Power Pistol. That's my heavy bullet .44 spl load. Got the idea from Brian Pearce's article.

I shoot a LEE 310 with 14.0 of H110 in my Ruger Flat Top. I based it on the Brian Pearce article as well. It's a great load IMHO.

I've never used H110/W296 in loads like this, though I have seen Pearce's article. I guess 25,000 PSI will be right at the bottom of the powder's working range.

I have an accurate mould that drops bullets from wheelweight lead at 272gr. It's a wide flat nose style that seats a little less shank inside the case below its crimp groove vs what a 429421 has for shank inside its own case (for comparison) ... meaning this heavy 272gr bullet leaves a touch more case capacity than a standard 429421. I wanted exactly that when I was looking for a heavier (but still field useable) bullet in my specials that I could still drive 1050 or so within reasonable pressures to make good use of the 272's weight advantage.
Anyway. I shot some pretty promising first groups with it at 25 yards the other day, powder coated and sized .429" over 15.0gr 2400 they chronographed 1083fps average and looked like <20fps spread on velocities. Which is pretty good. I'm going to test a bigger batch at farther distances and see if it's worth pursuing this charge at scale next. But so far so good, it's exactly in the range I wanted a heavyweight special load... you might find what you're after someplace close to this too
