I posted that last Sunday was a different kind of day in that I was able to work a deal on two separate old model 44 flat tops. The first gun was posted by a Ruger Forum member and as the collector stalwarts looked at the pictures, the consensus was that the gun had been re blued at some time in the past. This possibly occured when the gun had the factory transfer bar conversion installed. Due to these factors Dave decided to sell the gun and I was able to pick it up. Once I got it home I spent about 7 minutes pulling out the conversion parts and reinstalling a period correct set of innards. Next I grabbed a much nicer XR-3 grip frame I had in the parts box and installed it along with a nice set of hard rubber grips. I know that to the dyed in the wool collector, the potential of a re blue shoots this old gun out of the water but for a guy like myself, I couldn't be happier. Shoot, I MAY even decide to keep this one for a week or two! This is how this 1957 warhorse looks now.

I can picture an octagon barrel and a coat of hard chrome... Perhaps a bore to 45 Colt!

For $750 shipped to "The Hole" you can get started on it spidey man. Shoot you could have the option for the same price of a steel Old Army grip frame with the wide trigger!
