I had an interesting thought while I was perusing the Dixie Gunworks site. They have a Cattleman’s Target version with the standard grip and they offer fixed sighted Bisleys. Would the grip frames on the Uberti Colt clones interchange? A Bisley Target, especially if one could find an extra 44 Special cylinder for it would be sweet.
Not that I’m likely to do it anytime soon but sitting here waiting for the wife to get ready and got to pondering.

The frames of the two are slightly different. A few years ago I bought a 7 1/2" Uberti Flat Top 44-40 from Dixie, then purchased and fitted a .44 Special cylinder. It was amazingly accurate, and probably the most accurate revolver I've ever owned.    I shot one buck with it then sold it to a fella here. That long barrel just didn't work for me. Uberti did make a Flat Top Bisley, and CraigC, a member here, has one, but they're pretty rare. Google- Uberti "Flat Top" Bisley Uberti Flat Top Bisley |

I’ve seen pictures of the flat top Bisleys but never seen one for sale.

I feel silly having shared that, but.... I'm excited!
What's to say that's useful though. Yes very hard to find. I'm getting a sense the amount made was not super far into 3 digits, idk, 200, 300. At the point you have production volume like that out of something made 20 years ago, you can just about never find them. I also have had them on my list, and I think I see 1 a year on mainstream sales websights.
Yeah I have an '1873' search filtered for used revolvers, and as habit I probably hit it once in morning and once before bed.
Also big fan of the Dixie FT. I'm on my second one, and I love it. It came from Uberti's gray cch era though, so its torn down and the frame is out for re- cch.

Please elaborate (Who, where when?) and you MUST post photos when it's finished. I'm very interested because I have a 4 3/4" Uberti Frisco that's beautiful and a fantastic shooter, but it was a display model at a gun shop in Louisiana and the coon asses mishandled it and scored the cylinder. I've often thought about having the frame CCH'ed and the rest re-blued. This is a shot of it before I carried and shot it. The bluing is quite worn now.  |

I'm going to call it a lot of the 1990s and then ending maybe 2014, with some exceptions that are decent in there. Uberti's cch was always understood to be hot cyanide bath, and this can be fine. They are still doing it this way today and it's a pretty good appearance. But somehow or another they went twenty years or so where it was just a real low effort job in their factory, they scrimped on it, and they have yeah, a gun metal look. This is mine ,,,,,, grey blob colored but I love the gun anyway.   As to the OP's question about grip frame swapping. This rear frame came from out of the parts box because I wanted to remove the flair in the back but wanted to be able to replace the original and one-piece grip. But it required some hole relocating because their hole locating is nowhere near as precise as RW's stuff. When it was all done I have my doubts the original would fit properly, and IT is now in the parts box.  |
