I can't remember if I posted pics after it was all done and on a quick glance I didn't see it so here is the 450 Marlin. It turned out great. As long as loads are resonable the break makes it very comfortable to shoot. As a good general purpose load I work up 300 grain JHPs to 2030fps and anyone can shoot it. Of course it can go much hottter but until I chase something really big that is plenty.

It is kinda Buck Rogers' style. But a really neat gun.

It is kinda Buck Rogers' style. But a really neat gun. Incredible shooter as well. Nothing has shot a group over an inch at 100 yards. When it warms up I will be back at it. I have some bullets to try for long range with a higher BC. The wind likes to push the 300 grain JHPs around.

What did you find with higher BC ? I've 2 boxes of each weight of gummy bullets in 44 that I bought, just because. Think 225 and 265gr. I wonder just what the 430JDJ could do with them. These kinda bullets were not available back in the 430JDJ's brief day. I've not tried them yet. In same vein as JDJ and JT, have started and stuck 300gr, a Missouri bullet SWC. But I wonder, and am curious of your mentioned higher BC choice to try.

I am not limited by the overal length problem that is present in the leveraction. I also tried the 300 grain Barnes TSX and it flies noticibly flatter. The 325 grain Hornady flies falter than it should in the .450. Advertised BC is .230. When it warms up and I get time I will try to get a closer number for it. WIth the hawk it is a balancing act between velocity and BC. Still a work in progress. It looks like the 350 grain Spitzer is going to win.

Thank you for the reply. JT mentioned the Hawks bullets some yrs back. I google them now and then, have yet to order and try. When I 1st looked, they were custom bullet pricey, LOl. It seems over the few years they have resisted raising prices and are a better value now and I should try them in something.

It seems over the few years they have resisted raising prices and are a better value now and I should try them in something. They are great. I had him make me a batch of custom bullets with a .050" jacket that were scary. There were .458" diameter but weighed 380 grains. Because of the jacket thickness and the pressure guidelines given to me by the lab, it had a very narrow loading window in the 45-70 but with the .450 Marlins 43,000 PSI max saami numbers it was a match made in heaven. They have had a little problem getting jacket material over the last couple of years but you can email them and get some idea on availibility. Great folks to deal with. On another note their 350 grain JSP for the 500 Linebaugh is a great bullet.
