I just started pushing my cast powder coated SWC penta HP cast out of a MP HG503 mold to 1400 fps chrono'ed from my 44 magnum. My revolver is a Ruger SRH with a 2x leupold scope. I'm shooting at a spray paint dot 6" in diameter. shooting from a bench off a sandbag for load development I got 3-3.5" groups. For those of you pushing your cast bullets fairly hard, are you seeing accuracy deteriorate drastically when going up in velocity or are they holding the groups. What are your top end velocity with plain base powder coat cast slugs. I know 1400 fps is not blistering speeds however i dont shoot anything bigger than deer and hogs.

I know how well you shoot dave so im assuming those are 100yd groups. 3.5" at 100yds out of a ruger seems pretty salty to me!

It won't deteriate in a handgun if everything is right. Throats, bore, alloy hardness, forcing cone, bullet design, bullet sizing, lube, powder coat if used. There's just so many variables.
I have loaded the 357 Maximum in the contender to 1900fps with a traditional lubed plain base Keith bullet. 2" at 100yds with no leading.
Same bullet sized and lubed the same leads my revolvers horribly. But sized at .358", no leading. Only change was to size to the cylinder throats. Groups tightened from ridiculous to under 1" in the 353.

thanks, have this problem of going down the rabbit hole sometimes with velocity and accuracy. over thinking the obvious is a natural for most casters and reloaders.

People also overemphasize velocity. Maximum accuracy is rarely paired with maximum velocity. Which works best, a perfectly placed bullet at 1200fps or a not perfect at 1600? I'll take the perfect every time.
