I've been struggling to achieve what I feel is the accuracy the BFR is capable of. The long frame models have intrigued me for years but they present several unique challenges to accuracy and general handling. My go to load was a 430gr WFN w/ gas checks over 42grains of Accurate 2015. These proved very accurate in my lever guns but could never print consistent groups with the BFR. Enter these puppies from Matt's bullets. 730gr WFN w/ gas check. 1.69 inches in length with a monster of a shank at 0.97 inches to soak up all that case volume. With the long nose these sit at a loaded length of 2.82 inches, filling the BFR cylinders as much as I've ever seen. I worked up this powder charge to 32.5 grains of Accurate 2015 with extraction remaining very easy and the cases noticeably less sooty than any other load I've had with the BFR. These produced an average of 981fps for 5 rounds on the chronoghraph. The downside... The recoil is something to behold. No matter how hard you hold on, you do just that. You are holding on and going for a RIDE. Shooting gloves are very highly recommended. The BFR Bisley grip frame does a great job of mitigating recoil, while having an unorthodox feel in the hand of feeling thinner at the bottom than what is typical. While doing load testing I was able to walk my rounds down towards the center bullseye (point of aim). For reference, this gun has a 6.5 inch full octagonal barrel with pentagon cylinder, BFR "Bisley" style grip, Fermin's brass front sight, Ultradot II sight and the whole gun is black nitrided from Magnum Research.

I'm all ears regarding the potential target medium for testing. I can get some wood boards easily. 10 years ago I could get phonebooks no problem but I haven't seen one in a while. The sounds from this range session were strange. There is no discernable "crack" just a big "dooof", like a 12 gauge slug. I'll try to record some of these hitting the steel gong.

I have the 10" 45-70 BFR and can get 1.5" groups with 405s and open sights at 50yds. My eyes are probably the limiting factor. IMR 4227 or 4759 work great. I tried some of the slower powder loads, but accuracy was terrible.
