Hi All,
I was cleaning out some stuff I had packed away and found a blued TC Contender G2 receiver I bought many years ago and never built on.
I wanted to put it to good use and build a hunting pistol with it naturally.
I was looking to get some input from folks on here because single shot pistols are definitely out of my wheel house.
I wanted to stick with a caliber I currently shoot and was thinking 45 colt because I really like the round, outside of 475 Linebaugh. I could also go 44 magnum as a I shoot and reload that also.
I was doing a google search and saw MGM come up as a barrel builder but am insure of best barrel length , twist and such
IIam open to suggestions and recommendations
Thanks in advance

I have three MGM barrels and they are excellent barrels.
The only reason I don't have four is that the next one I want would cost me close to $600.
For the same barrel, SSK has some barrels which are in stock and about $440, or they could make you one. EABCO can do the same barrel I'm looking for for just under $500, but it's a nine-month wait.
I bought two of my three MGM barrels at the same time and I think the wait was about five weeks, but I also only paid $375 each for them five or six years ago. Big difference today.

My bad. I originally suggested 41 magnum then noticed you were talking about what you already had, hence the change to 45 Colt which would be an equally good suggestion.π

MGM are excellent barrels. SSK makes good barrels as well and their hunter line will save you quite a bit of money.

Depending on what you want to do with the barrel and how far you want to do it at. The 10 in handles better and carry's better, the 14 inch gets you more velocity and a longer sight radius. If you want to do longer ranges then don't overlook the bottle neck cases like 30-30, 7-30 waters 300 Blackout etc. The sweet thing about Contenders is you tailor the barrel length and caliber to the job you want to do. Its not a one trick pony!

A 44 mag with a 12 or 14 inch twist and 12 inch barrel. Or 10 inch, either way.
