I have a couple of 50-cal lead bullets to pull for assorted reasons. 500JRH & 500WE. I'd rather not ruin the bullets but the impact RCBS does not accept these large diameter cases. Any experience out there on how to successfully take these apart without damage to the components?

Is it the plastic impact bullet puller that uses the 3 section case holder? If so use your standard case holder instead of the 3 section holder, I have not used the 3 section holder in years (because it got misplaced from the puller and I had to figure out a different way to use the impact puller.

Yes that is the type puller I have. I will try your suggestion, had not thought of that. Thanks

I put a foam earplug in the bottom of mine so the bullet doesn't get damaged by slamming into the bottom of the impact puller.

I've used them since the 70's using a standard shell holder also with a bit of foam in the bottom. A word of caution, wear eye protection using impact pullers. In the past I've had two of the inertia pullers violently self destruct from the impact on the pavement and shards of plastic hit my face.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I did use the shell holder idea and was successful at pulling these rounds apart. The shell holder worked much better than the collet idea ever did. Great idea!

I hit mine on a piece of old oak. Still works, but the pullers last longer
