...the ice stopped my shooting and loading progress for a week. Good thing about that is that it made me realize that I need to quantify these 22 Hornet Super Redhawks before I rechamber either one to K Hornet. As the temperature eases up that will be the plan. Hang a 2.5-8 Leupold on each of them and run a few cylinders of factory 22 Hornet through them at 25 Yards. Report to follow.

Following this with interest. Never warmed up to the SRH look, but am tempted to get one of these to scope for varmints.

Try as many different factory loads and bullet weights as you can. Three out of four loads might shoot like a bad dream then you find that one that is a diamond in the rough.

x101airborne I could never understand the mystik of going to K hornet. If you want more go to the next cartridge up the ladder. Now that you have two of those Rugers I can then understand it. I heard all the negatives about the Hornet and I've never experienced them in my CZ 22 Hornet rifle. It's a sporter model with a fiberglass stock. With Hornady A Max bullets it will shoot all five rounds into a 3/8 hole at 100 yards all day long. Shoots other jacketed about the same. I also shoots cast buller prett decent. No way in the world I'd ream it to a K Hornet. I've had it for 35 years or more and have not lost one piece of brass yet. I had heard the Hornet is hard on brass. I use the LEE Collet Neck sizing die to load it. That Redhawk of yours in interesting and I will be following you when you ream that one to the K Hornet to see what you say about the difference between it and the Hornet. I'm in no matter mocking or trying to discourage you and hope it works out for. What brand brass you using? I'm using Winchester and in my opinion it's better then the Remington I have, it's thicker in the neck and tighter primer pockets. For that A Max load I use a stiff load of 296 Winchester powder. A similar perforting cartridge I have is the 5.7 Johnson Spitfire on an M1 Carbine. Neat little round.

5.7? Rimless K Hornet! My SRH 22 Hornets are ready to play with matching 3-12 Burris scopes. Nice to hear some positive experience with the Hornet with 296. Ordered some of the Hornady 45 grain bullets marketed expressly for the Hornet. Expecting the 9 twist on the SRH to provide an option for heavier bullets.

My contender loves the A-max on H110.

FWIW, 218 bee in a model 43:
No love found with H110 and several bullets.
40 gr Sierra Hornet over less than max Lilgun was magic.
Heat issues acknowledged, perhaps not the same problem with such a small dose?

My load of 12.0 grains of 296 Winchester with a Hornady 40 grain Vmax came from Bob Forker who use to write for Guns & Ammo. It may be hot in your particular rifle. I was not in mine. At one of the gun shops I use to deal with they were bragging up about a customer shooting a Ruger Heavy barrel 77 in 22 Hornet getting 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards using H110 and some powder I forget. That stopped when I told them about my load above getting consistent 3/8 inch groups out of a plain Jane CZ 527 with a light sporter barrel. I don't know what it will do in a handgun as I don't own a 22 Hornet in any handguns. Please work up to this load. As loaded my cartridge is maximum length for my CZ's magazine. BTW the magazine, although well made and of steel feeds pretty crappy because of the Hornet's case rim. Cannot not be allievated unless CZ changed the magazine. I never bothered to find out if they did. That rifle is made in 22 Hornet, 223 Rem, and 7.62x39. That makes the Hornet magazine long for the cartridge and it has a spacer in the rear of the magazine which I have messed with to no avail to improving the feeding.

Running a 3-12 Burris on each gun... Shooting from a pretty loose rest... As we evolve I'll upgrade the rest. A SRH grip insert for my Ransom Rest might happen.
