It's a little rough, perfect for a custom project I have in mind!

A FT .44,, even in such condition,, would be snagged by me for that amount. That's why I stay off GB.

Nice flat top, and from the pic whatever project you have lined up, it looks like you got a GR8 start!
I need to stay off Gunbroker and Florida gun trader, out of Gun shops and Gun Shows. That or leave much of the contents of my wallet at home.

That's a beautiful platform for a rebuild, congratulations!

My thoughts the same as Dick's. Perfect for a refurbish or base gun...

A good score! I have a very hard time passing a Ruger over, especially at that price AND a flattop!

I'll go against the grain a little here. This place is known to have quite a few folks who enjoy building custom guns. But since the gene pool of OM, FT's in .44 mag keeps shrinking,, I'd try & keep it "as is" and enjoy it as a shooter. Or at the most a top quality re-bluing job to restore it's beauty. Since there were only 29860 of them built,, with a total of (3) barrel lengths,, the production numbers are low enough to save one as it was built. Maybe clean it up, re-blue it,, and enjoy it as Bill intended to be.

I initially thought “uh, decent price but not great”. Then I realized it was a flat top! You done good……you done real good! Id have no qualms rebuilding it into whatever you’d like. There are plenty of pristine examples left for the museums.

Depending on the severity I will likely have it cut to 5 1/2, custom front sight, flush to the barrel end target ejector housing, steel grip frame and reblue. The cylinder looks to have a bit of pitting as well. If a black powder chamfer helps clean that up then probably do that as well.

I would’ve grabbed that one too. Congrats on a nice score. Were it mine I might have it shortened to 4 5/8” but that would be it.
If you change the grip frame I’d be interested in buying the aluminum XR3. I much prefer them on my OM’s.

As long as it's a good shooter, I probably wouldn't do anything to it. Just shoot it as is.
