The wife and I went to church at one of the Saturday evening services last weekend so Sunday we were able to hang out around the house. As I flipped through the Ruger Forum I saw where a member had swapped for a 4 digit Ruger Blackhawk 44 mag flat top that had been converted. He was looking for a set of original parts which I just happened to have. During the conversation it became clear that the gun had been reblued when the conversion kit was installed. These two facts caused the new owner to decide to sell the gun rather than keep it. I mentioned in a post that I would be interested in it and to kill this part of the story, we worked out a deal and this oldster has already move here and been restored to original as far as lockwork goes.
As these cyber-talks were going on, a second member noted that I had expressed an interest in the gun and he emailed me about a flat top he wanted to sell. He sent pictures and a copy of the Ruger records dept. letter that said the gun was shipped in June of 1959. Here is where it gets exciting. The gun is a factory 7 1/2 barrelled gun, a BKH-47. According to the gentleman who does the RENE, these are extremely rare versions, right behind the 10" 357 with 8 grooved barrels. Now I have been lucky enough to stumble onto a factory brassie in 44 Mag and a lettered gun that was shipped with a factory brass gripframe as an accessory, both of which succumbed to the Black Hole Vortex, but I never thought I'd have a 7 1/2" 44 flat top come knocking on my email door! Payment is sent and now I just need to get over to the central part of the state to pick it up once I get home from the Del Rio to Oregon trip next week. All in all, a pretty cool Sunday in my book.
