Regarding a USFA Rodeo, 45 Colt, 4 3/4" barrel.
I replaced the base pin with a Belt Mountain Colt-style pin based on Belt Mtns recommendation because the factory pin was coming out with Buffalo Bore standard pressure loads. Apparently, the USFA pin is slightly undersize and a larger diameter pin was thought to cure the ills.
I notice if I hold the revolver with a normal hand shake grip, the pin still loosens. However, If I hold with a very firm handshake grip, the revolver doesn't seem to recoil as much and the pin stays in.
Is this typical? How firm of a handshake grip would you recommend be needed/desireable versus the need for some form of screw-in pin?
Thanks.

peacemaker beat me too it: you might try installing a Wolff extra power base pin spring. www.gunsprings.com/index.cfm?page=items&cID=3&mID=1i have no idea if your grip is part of the problem, but i always shoot with a reasonably firm (but not "death-grip") that allows the SA to rotate a bit. and i've yet to have base pin slide out. just lucky i guess...

Yeah, that is absolutely the next step towards a cure.
You don't want to shoot a gun that's jumping the base-pin as that slowly screws up the frame.
