When I got a tumbler some years ago, a friend now gone gave me a gallon jug of something. I got a bag of something, walnut hull type I believe. Dropped a few hundred 32 HnR into the tumbler a couple of hours ago and just went downstairs to check on. An odor hit me at bottom of stairs. Checked the rough sink and both sinks in the in-law suite, flushed the toilet there...and my nose led me to the Lyman turbo whatever thingy. I live in septic system country and my first BIG worry was ! So, medias, plant based, corn cob, walnut hulls, etc.. Anyone here get that smell ? Throw out and get fresh ? Add couple spoonfuls of baking soda ? Help ?

Been using walnut media far longer then time itself. No really, a long time. Never had any problems with it at except wearing out. Zero smell. You have something else going on.

Maybe a cat got into it? :-) Try baking soda to see if it works de-stinking it, baking soda is cheaper and more available than tumbling media.

I would start fresh. I use lizard bedding from Petco. Its walnut shells ground very fine. Works awesome and is a lot cheaper than actual tumbling media.

I’ve never noticed a $hitty smell, but I have to say, once I finally got a wet tumbling set up, walnut media could smell like money and I wouldn’t go back!😁

+1 on wet tumbling. In stead of smelling one, get a FART.

My walnut media has been in my tumbler since 2005. I remember because my wife bought it for me on my 25th birthday while we were dating. I just used it the other day. Didn't smell bad to me.

Could a chipmunk or mice have gotten to your media and urinated all over it? My walnut media never smells bad.

My media, either in the tumbler, or a big , like 2 gallon size jug with screw on lid. Went back down today, no smell. Am thinking..the septic "burped" and smell came up the seldom used inlaw suite plumbing. But all good today. Appreciate the thoughts.
