I'll have to pick that copy up. I loaded some pretty hot loads for my 94 Winchester Trapper in 45 Colt and because the chambers are over fat in them, they had really bad case bulge at the web even with using Starline brass. My Marlin 94 Cowboy doesn't do that as it has a tight chamber. Be careful guys!!

There's not many 94AE's out there in .45 Colt, it's a great little rifle. I'll show you mine if you show me yours :-)

gnappi I'm not sure you are correct about not that many Win 94's were made in 45 Colt. I'm finding and a quick search it's something like 5.5 million.

Several sources suggest total 94 production was just over 7.5 million units. The AE came at the tail end of that in 1982 and pistol caliber variants were a small part of that production with the .45 Colt 1st making an appearance in 1985. While the 92 is better for pistol cartridges, my 94 is accurate and reliable. It's long stroke slow in comparison to the 92 but again, reliable and accurate.

So what is the final story on the 45 Colt loads for lever action rifles in the latest Handloader. Are there or are there not listed load data? I haven't been able to get to the magazine store to check it out or buy it yet. Thanks

There is load data listed in the Feb 2024 Handloader, but not much. It’s not a full article, just a response to a reader question. The question was for some jacketed bullet data that would also be safe in a medium frame Ruger. Data was a few loads with 250 XTP’s and 250 Speer DC. The loads had velocities in both a 5 1/2” revolver as well as a 20” Marlin. Most had about a 300 fps increase in the rifle. Of the powders Brian used the greatest increase in velocity came with 2400.

The April 2022 issue has alot of load data for cast and jacketed bullets that Mr. Pearce developed for mid-frame Rugers in the 23,000 psi range, which is the range he suggested in the response to the reader's question in this month's issue. I'd love to see what he suggested to see how it compares to the earlier data since I load for my 45 Colt carbines as well as Blackhawk. I'll have to buy a print version.

I've tried quite a few of what's been mentioned in this thread (or similar) and honestly I've rarely found a bad one in the carbine. My plain vanilla Colt load is the 255/260 SWC over 8.5 of Unique, Universal or Power Pistol. For something a little spunkier the 270SAA with 12.5 HS6 gets the nod.
I got more than adequate field accuracy out to 200 yards with the 454190 and Power Pistol. Luckily the elevator notches on my sight were close to correct with that load so didn't have to fiddle around, just point and shoot (on that day anyhow).
I did once work up to a 45/90 Express type load but it was a little too much of a good thing in a 92 carbine.

Our favorite loads are only 1/2 a grain of Unique different and they may equal out depending on what our bullets really weigh.
