I just got a box of 400 each, of Rim Rock 270 SWCs. They call them a Keith bullet. I don't find any data, for it. I am planning on 2 loads for my large frame 7.5-inch NM Blackhawk and 1 for my 6.5-inch Reader Custom .454. I have a couple pounds of 4227 and based on what I read on these pages. Thats a top choice. I have been shooting 250 grain Cast out of the .454 with 24 grains and Will probably use the same charge weight with the 270s. Not a mild load but not uncomfortable to shoot either.. I was thinking maybe 19 or 20 grains in the Ruger. That should get me decent level of power but not make shooting 50 rounds to bad for my wrists and or hands shouldn't it? ...tj

If it’s similar (or same ) to the RCBS 47-270 SAA I have data I can send
maybe measure from base to crimping groove, can compare that way

They are NOT the same bullet as the RCBS 270-SAA but data for that bullet will work fine. They are lighter not heavier than the RCBS bullet is.

Thanks for the offer, I measure .405 from the base to the bottom of the band. ...tj

As long as you aren't pushing the envelope of pressure I would just load them as normal.

Bobcat, I might just do that. But some powders 296 and H-110 can cause big problems when loaded to low. Don't know where 4227 fits in that picture. ...tj

Look's like the data I have from a Brian Pearce article only has H-4227, I ran a a seating depth of .405" and 270 grains on an MP-45-270 clone. I'll post the data for 20k PSI loads from the article picture of 4

OMG....Too....Much....Data! What is that screen? Looks like Gordon's Reloading Tool. I'm more interested in where he got the MP bullet data from for it!

Yep that’s Gordon’s reloading tool, can’t verify pressure but the velocities are spot on
I was able to go in an add the MP 45-270, the selection in there is extensive but I always double check dimensions of the actual bullet

Thanks for the data. I think my large frame Blackhawk will handle well over 20000, Maybe I will go with 2400, For some reason 1050 seems a lot Better the 980. I have a hard time finding 2400 still but I have a full pound. The thing with 4227 is the cost. It is about 50.00 a lb. I might buy some tight group. 8.5 grains busting 1050! Hell, that's a lot of shooting for a lb of powder! Thanks again.

14.5 gr. of VV N105 gives me 1030 fps from a 5½" barrel with great accuracy and only 19.3 kpsi, 1.66" OAL (according to GRT).

Although I haven’t tried deep seating over IMR/H4227, suspect the same would be true. If 4227 was the only slow (pistol) powder I had, I’d try it. I started deep seating of cast and swaged half-jacket bullets in my teens, continuing ever since. My first slow powder----fastest of the slows----was Hercules 2400. Back then, I deep seated cast over Hercules Bullseye and Hercules Unique as well----for lighter loads. David Bradshaw

Thank you for the deep seat tip. I would love to see a picture of 2 rounds with the same bullet. One seated standard and 1 deep.
