Anyone using Patmarlin's gas check making tools? The issue the OP is inquiring about isn't in my world as I don't cast.

Pat Marlin's is a two step process. O like the single step ones from Mattesons Mini Machine Shop. I use the regular ones and the plain base version.
The plain base uses thin aluminum from soda cans to go on regular, non gas check design bullets. Working great in the 357 max.
They sell on eBay for about $120 and he will make it to match whatever your bullets shank diameter is on request. Plus they seem to be good people by speaking with them on the phone.

You could always try removing the gc portion of the mold... Inexpensive Lee mold and a half inch drill bit run slow? I wanted to try this with the Lee 475-325, but now they quit making it and I don't want to screw up my only copy.
