So I carried my recurve while hunting this years deer gun season with a buddy of mine. We hunted for a doe for his daughter and he had a whitetail buck tag as well. I had a deer gratis and a bow tag in my pocket. We practiced quite a bit with recurves and blunts or judo points as we wandered around. After they left I worked most days but finally got to hunt last Saturday. Walking around stalking some does and I bumped into a muley buck. He didn’t notice me as he was bedded out of the wind behind some brush. I was able to draw and put an arrow in his shoulder. He disappeared in the brush and I gave him some time and found him dead a short time later. I was fortunate to be able to have this experience . It’s been a long time since I have taken any big game with bow. And all during rifle season. I wish I could post a picture. He was just a strange stag but nice size.

This may sound weird but when you dressed him were his testicles normal?
The ranch my brother guides on they have these weird little stag bucks running around that are still in velvet in November, the antlers are often small mutant shapes and when the shoot one and dress it they often have tiny testicles. I guess they get bit in the summer by some bug and the testicles shrivel up and with that their testosterone basically is eliminated with it, so they get weird antlers and done put any body weight on either. The seem to get along ok and will survive a couple of years, they cant breed so they don't mess the gene pool up but are a odd anomaly for sure.
The CPW says they are fine to eat as well so no bad side effects their either.
Just curious from his antlers he strikes me as possibly having the same issue.
Regardless a fine animal with the most challenging tool to hunt with that I can think of...

Oh, and great job on the buck!

Well thanks guys! Yes this was truly a guy you could call numb nuts. There were none. We see that from time to time. Not sure what gets them. I had seen him a few times so wasn’t surprised. But i was surprised at stumbling in so close. The wind was holding him in. They don’t like it we don’t like it but it’s productive sometimes.

Oh and the kids were home so we messed around with some of the meat and it is very good. On par with whitetail we thought.
