Ordered my first hollowpoint mould recently, and am also curious to hear more Chollla..
How deep in the cavity did you find those 44's & 45's? Offside skin, or noplace even close to passing through?

HP's are certainly kewl looking, but I've used three of them on deer (MP 357 Carbine @ 1700 fps, MP 429244@ 1050 fps & 45-270 SAA 950 fps) and although they killed the game, penetration was nothing special. They're sure pretty to look at though! Beautiful bullets! That 45c looks like picture book expansion. All the bullets are cast from a fairly malleable alloy of around 10 Bhn. The .357 bullet is a 162 gr. HP fired from a 92 Rossi carbine at around 1700 fps MV into a young sow weighing about 100 lbs. Range was ~50 yds. and the bullet entered high at the rear of the left shoulder and angle down and back coming to rest under the skin on the far side. I had intended to use the same bullet with a smaller HP cavity, but got them mixed up when loading. The .44 bullet is from copy of the Lyman 429244 mould and weighed ~250 grs. It was fired from a 7 1/2" Uberti Flat Top .44 Special MV 1105 into a young buck at 38 yds. It enter behind the left shoulder and angled forward into the right shoulder where it stopped under the skin. Damage was extensive and the buck never took a step. The .45 bullet was from a copy of the RCBS 45-270SA mould and weighed 260 grs. if memory serves. It was fired from a 5 1/2" Uberti Bisley (MV 1060 fps) into a buck at 48 yds. It entered high behind the left shoulder, angled up, clipped the spine and stopped under the skin on the off side. That buck never took a step either. Obviously all the bullets worked fine, but I prefer more penetration, so I've pretty much switched to plain ol' SWC's.
