Was just shooting mine an hour ago, in preparation for some use in the next few months. The irons still work with my eyes out to 150 in dim light, in bright light 250 is doable. Really it’s more target to background contrast than low or bright light.

A great rifle. Look at John Powers web site. There are picture of a rifle Where he filled some screw holes and the repair looks invisible...tj

I OWNED A MODEL 71 FOR MANY, MANY YEARS, I HAD AMMO AND COMPONENTS, BUT NEVER SHOT IT. BEAUTIFUL, CLASSIC LOOKING GUNS, MAYBE WHAT ALL LEVER ACTIONS SHOULD LOOK LIKE. THE OPEN SIGHTS, AND MY HANDGUN HUNTING, KEPT ME AWAY FROM IT. I SOLD IT TO A FRIEND WHO LIKES AND USES LEVER ACTIONS.

One day I would like to have Turnbull build one for me. It would have a half octagon 22” barrel with a button magazine. It should be a take down with a leather recoil pad and case hardening to round it out

I'm quite happy with my Turnbull Finished 1892. It's a new one made by Miroku for Winchester. Turnbull's finishes are excellent. I had the case colors coated with lacquer instead of the cerakote they normally use on new guns so that I'll get some honest wear, since I use the gun and don't just look at it. They remove the tang safety and convert the hammer to a traditional halfcock notch operation. It's really a decent gun if you want the finishes that were appropriate to guns made 100 years ago, which was one of the main appeals to me. I wasn't sure about the made in japan gun, but my research shows that the people that own and use them are thrilled with the quality, some even saying it's better than the original Winchesters. Seems that the only people who disparage them for being made in japan, are those that do not own one. I was pretty skeptical, but the quality, fit and finish is overall excellent. There are a few minor things, such as a line of checkering not being perfect. I'd love to have an 86 made with a dual set of barrels. One in large bore and one in small bore, maybe .348 winchester and 50-100, or maybe 33 winchester and 45-70 or... 416 barnes. Guess a guy can dream.

It’s one of the limited Browning 71, High grades. ( originally a 348 Winchester) I think they made about 2,500 of them. I liked it for the wood more than the fancy engraving. But a 16.5” 50-110 Big Bore is really exhilarating.

I have a thing for nice wood, it doesn't have to be curly, just have an interesting grain or colors.

That is beautiful, I can see why you like it. I like that little bit of orange.
What is that fur? Is that a brown bear hide?
