Got to look at the New Rossi 6" 357 Magnum this morning....
Which Smith frame size do you feel it most closely resembles?
The hoopla up front in all the regurgitated official press-release text was all about six shots in a "small-frame" revolver, where everyone else is only doing five shots, but I'm not so sure.
Rossi says it weighs 27.3 ounces - the 3" model (RP63)
For comparison, from my records of 5-shot revolvers (actual weights, unloaded):
Charter Target Bulldog, 4", Blued ("two-piece barrel) - 20 ounces
Taurus 605, 3", stainless - 23.7 ounces
Charter Mag Pug, 3", stainless (one-piece barrel) - 22 ounces
Ruger SP101, 3" stainless - 27 ounces
*Rossi M720, 3", stainless - 30.8 ounces
**Ruger Service-Six, 4", stainless - 33.6 ounces
The first three, and the Service-Six all fit in the same wet-formed leather holsters, the Taurus being a few thousandths smaller in cylinder diameter, but not much.
*SIX-shot - all others FIVE
**44 SpPecial, all others 357
The 3", tapered-barrel Bulldogs and my current 3" Mag Pug have always been my favorite and most-carried carry-guns, even as non-glamorous as they are.
I've carried all the above fairly extensively and the Rossi M720 and Ruger Service Six both just went over the line on weight and the M720 was a bit bulky for my build. Suppose I was just spoiled with the Charter Bulldogs.
In any case, it sure won't hurt a thing to have an extra 3", stainless 357 Mag around and I'll take that extra hole in the chamber, but I'd have jumped on a five-shot just as quickly - maybe more so.
By the way, that Taurus 605 was a nice gun except for the DA and SA trigger pulls - very heavy, and it actually cost me MORE than the Rossi RP63.
