RANDY, IIRC, THE HOGS JUST STARTED SHOWING UP AT YOUR LEASE A FEW YEARS AGO? Yep - good memory. This will be my 18th season out there and for the first few years we never saw a single pig. None. Then about 4-5 years in, one of the lease members came in from a hunt and swore to us he saw a hog. We chastised him pretty good because 'there are no hogs here'. Anyway, fast forward to today and we pretty much see them every trip now. And most definitely if someone was to sit over night, it would be all but guaranteed.

Kudos! Maybe one day I'll get a chance to hunt hogs with a handgun! Many of the southern states are infested with them. Florida even has a few selected areas with year round hunting in public areas.

I eat every sow I kill. The biggest sow I’ve killed on our lease was 160# and she was delicious. It seems it doesn’t matter how big a sow is, they are all good to eat. And likewise, it doesn’t really matter how small a boar is, they all stink to high heaven. Once their balls drop, they aren’t worth messing with. I’ve eaten some big boars in sausage. The taste is wonderful but the smell when cooking is the same as when they were still on the hoof!🤢

I got a 60 lb boar once that was still small enough for eating. Little bastard was still tough enough to dull 2 knives working him up.

The trick is this: take a utility knife with a new blade and set it to cut 1/2” deep or so. Cut the hogs skin into strips 4-6” wide the length of the body and you can peel it with two fingers. These days I use a no gut method on hogs and don’t skin them. I take the back straps, hind quarters, and shoulders.

I hang mine from the hind legs and do the gutless method as well. Depending on size, I'll keep hind quarters, backstraps, and tenderloins on all - and if it's a decent size sow, and I don't waste the meat, I'll keep the front shoulders as well. The shoulders and hind quarters are excellent cooked all day in a crock pot.

Most people couldn’t believe it was wild game. I think I’m going to go after one this evening. 😁
