First deer of the season is down! I saw this buck last weekend and passed on him because I wasn’t sure of his age even though he was clearly a good management buck that needed to be removed from the herd. After I passed on him, two other members saw him and all agreed he was a 4 year old and most definitely needed to be culled. Well, he showed up right at day break today and I never hesitated. The shot was right at 50 yards with my FA 97 in 45 Colt. Hand loaded 282 cast HP (my first experience with these)over 2400. Shot was good and hit him high in the lungs. I new by his reaction he was hit hard. He made it about 75 yards before going down. Optic is a trijicon RMR 1MOA on a factory FA mount. Always cool to see bullets getting tested on game rather than cardboard and steel plates theorizing how they will do in game.
Tough job but someone has to do it.

Congratulations Big Bore, 75 yds is a dandy shot! The FA 45 is a fine hunting gun for sure & you used a great bullet.

Excellent. What mold and what velocity, please. I don’t know the mold as I acquired these from another handgunner. I did however chronograph the load at 1275. |

I knew it was only a matter of time before we got a post like this from Randy. Great addition to our collective handgun hunting experiences with relevant information and photos. The season is young, more to come I'd wager.

Randy, is that a SWC HP or what??? Nicely done, personally for our deer and medium sized pigs cast HPs could easily replace jacketed bullets. I’ve got a couple 270-300gr versions I’m excited to try this year.
