It's coming together. This handgun killed more deer than most hunters will in their life. I had to thin out deer in an over populated area and this was my main tool. I did it with one of the old no- gun smith B-Square mounts. After killing deer in the 3 digits with the gun the mount began to shift. I pulled it off and reinstalled the sights. I think I killed one hog and maybe a deer or two open sighted then put it up. A couple of months ago I realized that I had committed an injustice to the gun. I decided to scope it once again. This time I would drill and tap it and use one of the new style mounts. This is a preliminary assembly. I don't like the way the rail floats above the rib. It would be hard to mill it and get the stop block back in the proper position. I had a brain storm to use Acra Glass on the rail so the screw in the rib will bottom out instead of springing the rail. The install of the new rib is not an easy one. It required refitting the stop block and their location for the center screw is in the wrong location for tapping a hole on the old style gun but the old gun will once again be out chasing deer. The gun shot consistent 1.5" groups at 100 yards. The gun is a rare T441T .44 Special.

That's a great looking gun and I'm jealous! I'm just starting into the older world of Taurus and I'm looking for one of these 44 specials myself.

Those were EXCELLENT guns!
I had a stainless 6" and a blued 3". Both shot very well, were well-made and very nicely finished. I liked the triggers on the older ones much better too. When t he moved the firing pin to the frame, they lost something - at least on their small frame guns.

My Taurus 44 Special is amongst my most accurate Double Actions.
That looks like an excellent project and nice gun...

It's hard to believe that Taurus went from building these to the present production products. They were supposed to fix some of the issues. I hope they do.

I was lucky enough to find one of the Taurus 66 .357s from that era. The 6 shot guns were the ones to have. Very accurate and smooth revolver. I am not sure if they ever built a 66T. That would be a jewel. Here is my 66. Fit and finish is excellent.

I'm thinking my brother's 357 is a T model, it has a solid rib and full underlug. It looks exactly like yours. It's a good shooter, he's had it since '87 or'88. He's tagged a couple deer with it. I don't know how much use it will get in the near future, he finally realized a 30 year dream, he bought a Coonan!

Theres a handful of older 66's on GB. There's a couple of brand new, but older 12 inch guns.
