Right now at two LGS there are three TC setups. Two are at the non gun store gun store, they are blued. The third is at a real gun store and is silver. The blued ones are eleven hundred each and the silver one is six hundred and is a 7mm something. All have scopes. I don't own one. What's the skinny on a silver TC with large TC letters on the side?

Talking original, G2 or Encores? Big TC letters could be an Encore maybe or G2?

The silver one could be Armalloy. Their barrels don’t interchange with standard Contenders.

There was a slight difference in the pin diameter. I had one long ago and it worked fine. Just needed to open up the hole a touch.

#1 On the blue 1st gen contenders look for a pin just above the trigger. Look hard and you'll see it on this one. That is the easy open modification that came in the last iteration of the 1st gen Contender. I read that it is stronger than the earlier ones too.

The mid mounted pivot pin was on Types 2, 3 and 4 of Gen 1 Contenders...

#2 On the barrel look for a split bolt. Looked through my pictures and can't find one. Open the action look down at the locking bolt on the barrel. You should see a seam where the bolt is in two pieces. Back in the day TC would send you replacement bolts just for the asking. They can still be had for a few dollars. This keeps the action from locking closed..

I saw this post a few days ago,, but due to other stuff, I didn't get time to look into the T/C catalogs right away. I seriously doubt the "silver" one is an "Armalloy" action. The few short years they were offered,, and the pictures in the catalogs show the normal mountain lion scene on the frames.
My guess is that the silver one is an "Encore" action & since the caliber is "7mm something" also makes me question it being a normal Contender. Yes,, there are some 7mm calibers in the Contender line,, but combined with the frame as described,, I'd say more likely an Encore.

I bought an action which was supposedly stainless steel. It had the crouching cat on it, which seemed odd, but I'm not an expert, so I bit. Turned out it wasn't stainless - it was chrome-plated. The owner had bough a 309-JDJ, complete from SSK in the JD Jones days - pre-dating the AA frames. Mine does not have a SN with "A" or "AA"preceding the numbers.
Someone, and I forget WHO, told me that SSK/JD Jones had some Contender frames hard-chrome-plated before TC did the Armour Alloy thing.
I can't prove any of that and am not interested in doing the research, but if anyone knows - maybe that's what the "silver" action is?

Probably Hard Chrome as you sat. It was JD's preferred finish.
Sounds like a score to me.

It may be a different plating,, but the odd thing is the T/C not the cat scene on the frame. I'd love to see a picture.

I have a few of JDs original hard chrome. He used to use Mahovskis I believe to do that finish work. This is one of his HHI serial numbered slab sizes that was hard chromed way back.

Appreciate the info! I still don't know for certain. The fella I got it from was an upstanding character, so I have no reason not to believe. He thought it was stainless. I did too until I got it. I'm not a collector, so it's a frame to me, blued, stainless or otherwise. I was looking for stainless at the time, but didn't realize they never had the crouching cat on them. I bought it because I'd given up on the SSK50, but left my name on the list just in case. Sure glad I stayed on the list. I consider my SSK50 a piece of very important firearms history.
I'd like to see a pic of the one in question with "TC" on it too. This is getting interesting.
I'm really, REALLY tickled that SSK has revived this design.
