I don't have Facebook or Instagram so I was a little late to find out about Backcountry. I had seen the excellent chest rigs pictured on these boards but didn't realize Randy did belt holsters as well.
Check out his "Texas Sidekick" model. It is an interesting variation on Bill Grover's design. I recently placed an order for one. Price was very reasonable.

It's coming. As more people find out you are making good leathers, more people will order. For example, I could have picked a number of established holster makers for the pancake you're making for the Blackhawk. I chose you for a reason. It's got ME thinking.... When I saw that original picture (Bigbore's) some time back, it seemed perfect for what I want/need. I tried one made of synthetics and was not happy with the fit/feel of the thing, though it was very nicely made. Since it was not a custom item, I opted to return it and the folks were very good to deal with. Just didn't "ride" well for me.
I especially like the conservative aesthetic, where the only "decoration" is the quality of material and workmanship. Very tough to hide flaws on a piece of work which has no ornamentation to distract the eye. My preference anyway. I think a fella who can make something that plain look that good is pretty much on the top of the heap in his field.
I tend to like plain leather for most aplications. After this rig arrived I looked it over and the more I looked the more impressed I was. You can tell quality workmanship just as fast as you can tell so-so workmanship. The thing about real quality is the nuances that keep magically appearing from real quality. I can't wait to get this rig in the woods. |
