After many years of shooting, recently a newly acquired Anaconda beat the tar out of some connecting tissue in my right thumb and it's forced me to re-think my aesthetic vs. practical views on what a DA handgun should look like.
I own or have owned most every DA make and model revolver on the market (except for Colt) and shot them without injury, but now I'm forced to revisit Pachmayr presentation grips (no finger grooves on the front strap) for a couple of my N frame S&W's.
I come to find out that Pachmayr offered TWO N frame Presentation grip styles I never heard of, maybe because I'd never considered replacing the "Coke bottle" wood grips. The Pachmayr "Small" and "Large" grip sizes have no bearing on the metal grip but the overall length of the rubber? Whooda thunkit?
I've purchased one of each if they work as well as expected my Coke bottle grips will have to sit in a drawer :-(
On the Lyman site (the owners of the Pachmayr brand) info on these small/large grips does not exist and they do not list "N" frame grips any longer so if you're advancing in years like I am (at 72) and are considering rubber grips, NOS or used are your only options.
PS, have y'all seen the prices on the "Coke bottle" grips? I used to buy them used for $25 at gunshows... WOW!

PACHMAYRS MAY NOT BE "lookers" BUT THEY ARE PRACTICAL AND OFTEN THE BEST CHOICE FOR SHOOTABILITY.

I discovered the same, and as a result I buy every set of "old" N frame Presentations, large or small, that I run across. (no, they're not for sale & I actually still need another set or two) The current (Chinese?) manufacture Pachmayr's are a poor imitation of the originals based on my purchase of one set for a K frame. Poor fit, moulding flash...garbage.

I really like the grips that came on my X-frame 500 S&W, very soft and cushy. I think they are made by Houge? like the Mono-Grip. The X frame is supposed to have an N frame grip frame profile.

Yes they are made by Hogue. They have a strip of I think it is Sorbothane (sp?) along the backstrap that makes a huge difference on hard recoiling Smiths such as the 329. I personally prefer the smooth to the finger groove version but to each their own.

The Hogue S&W 500 "Tamers" can be modified to eliminate the finger grooves and round the butt if desired. I used a "knife sharpening" belt sander on these. You can also use a dremel drum sander, block sander or knife (go real slow here - its easy to take off too much material and blending is tough to achieve). If you go slow a pretty decent outcome can be achieved. . I did the mod as "proof of concept" and don't bother any more (lazy in my old age and OEM grips work just fine for me). . Unmodified . . FWIW, Paul

Another vote for X-Frame tamer grips. My PD329 wears them. And my set seems as well made as older Pachmayrs. For recoil control I've always flet no double action compares to Dan Wesson. I have not yet shot the Manhurin though, of course the ones I've seen have only been .357s

gnappi, no, not me bidding on ebay. I prefer rummaging through the junk bins at the few old school gun shops I frequent. Came up with a set each of Redhawk Pachs and Uncle Mike's square butt K's just today.

FWIW, Paul I modified the Hogue monogrip for my Ruger SBH similarly to eliminate the finger grooves. I worked carefully with sandpaper of varying grits and am happy with the result. The finger grooves didn't fit me at all, but with their removal the grip is much more comfortable.
