I cast a bunch of these from my MP 454 640 4 hp mold. These are too long to crimp in the groove for short cylinder nm flattop 45s but great for new model 45s and fit my rebored from 41 to 45 old model blackhawk cylinder. I shot a bunch earlier this year but never through the old model Bob Baer gun i got recently. I needed to cast some to test. Several good threads were started about this bullet. My bullets weigh avg 261gr with mostly range scrap lead. They hammer out flat without cracking on the edges. Mp suggests the deep hp should weigh 251? Byt doesnt list the penta. Mine are always heavy. I powder coat with eastwood clear. They look like lead bullets. These are unsized. I just finished coating them. Probably let sit a few days before pushing through lee 452 sizer. Deep seating might be option but there are so many good bullets for 45 colt that i dont see a need on this one. I would like to test on an animal but im not really a hunter. I will do some testing and see what my guns do with it. The mp 308k is my #1 bullet and the mp 270 saa is my #2. The first time i tried this bullet i did not get more from it than with those 2 bullets but somebody could get more powder behind it. Its sort of the Mp ruger only bullet little brother.

I think your mold is defective, you should probably send it to me for proper disposal... Those are some great looking bullets!

Professor sent me some of these to try. The large pin hp is impressive to say the least.

Thus far the only molds I have for the 45 is the 454490 230gr, a 250 rnfp, and a 255 swc. There's an NEI 310gr swc on the way and the same member I got it from is kindly loaning me an NEI 340gr TC to try.
The 452-640 is definitely on my wish list.

"how do you get those to fit in a 7/30 Waters?? You might as well send me that 45 Vaquero.....we both know it won't shoot" Well, it's all in how ya size it! That Vaquero is married & having kids. I have to keep it as breeding stock.

I'm using that bullet in a couple of my different 45's. My El Dorado enjoys it, with either the Penta HP or the solid. Our bear season opens next week, and once again,, it'll be riding with me,, with the solids loaded in hopes,,,,!
I also shoot that bullet in my 454 FA. with very good results. Then there is the Ruger Bisley convertible that stays loaded & handy around here. I've often considered paring down a few molds since I got a few MP molds that have really made me smile at the range. This is one of my keeper molds.

I agree you should keep the moulds, just send me the gun, you said it's been a "breeder" I'll give it back in 2040! Dick

They will work fine in short cylindered guns, just deep seat them to your desired AOL and crimp over the ogive.
I run this bullet in my 1911 45acp with pretty impressive results...

@bulletdesigner has recommended against trying to crimp this bullet over the ogive before. Being he designed it, I defer to him.

If you want to use this bullet in your 45 flattop would you consider 45 Cowboy special brass? There's not enough powder space for heavy loads of slow powders but that's not really the gun for that. Works well with fast pistol powders up to at least mid-range.

Works well with fast pistol powders up to at least mid-range. That would work. But i just use 45 colt brass. I cast other bullets that work fine in my shorter cylinder guns. If i only used one bullet it would probably be the mp 270 saa, it works in all of them exceptionally well.
