The Shooters World AR plus also from powder valley is $203 per 8#, obviously designed for AR rifles , with free hazmat, pretty good deal, it is an excellent powder , for those that don't know, Shooters World powders are made by Lovex, the same company that made the Accurate powders. What loads are you doing with AR plus? I bought a jug last April and used it with some Speer 50 grain TNTs in a 223 bolt gun for prairie dogs. I was very happy with the powder. I've a hand full of 556 loaded with 75 grain hornadys but have not had a chance to test them yet.

From what I've seen, powders that work in 223, will also work with 308

I was using Win 748, with 150 Hornady interlock bullets with really good accuracy, but decided to save the rest of that powder for 30-30, and switched to Shooters World AR plus, and the results were very impressive, with 100 fps gained with 4.5 gr less powder than the 748, it is a ball powder, and burns very clean. Forget the exact number, but velocity was over 2700 fps, from an 18" barrel Have you tried the AR plus with 165 - 168 grain?

165 -168gr bullets. Looking to pick up 2 different powders to try in the ar10. ***** While the .308 Winchester/7.62x51mm NATO is one of, if not the most versatile and load-flexible cartridges ever developed, the AR-10 is, in my experience, the most picky of semi-auto .308 mechanisms. By comparison, the Heckler & Koch 91 gobbles a huge spectrum of .308 ammo. The AR 10 wants ammo loaded for a picky eater. The HK 91 will eat out of a garbage can. IMR 4895 and Hodgdon 4895 (I have interchanged them with the same sight dope in top level silhouette competition) are the hub of medium burn powders for the .308, and about any other cartridge which thrives on medium burn powder. Hodgdon Varget is, in my view, an offspring of 4895, a performance twin. The list of powders which well serve the .308 reads like a phone book, or at least a library of loading manuals. The old, long gone Hodgdon BL-C1 (or BL-C), and BL-C2 which followed are prototypical ball powders for the .308. Winchester 748 is an early, benchmark velocity powder. Accurate Arms 2520 is a top ball powder in .308. When loading for the .308 Winchester, you can do worse than view IMR/H 4895 as the hub of the .308 propellant wheel. Many spokes radiate from its performance temperament. Strength-wise, bolt actions take pressures harmful to semi-autos, levers, and pumps. Various bullet and powder companies are known to have marksmanship competitors on the tech staff.... which may be a source of dope for your specific rifle. David Bradshaw

What Bradshaw said about the AR10 308 is true, I have found that the RCBS 308 short base sizing die eliminated any chambering issues I had, and if you buy once fired brass like I do, it's almost a must.

Federal case CCI LR BR primer 168 Sierra MK 46.0 Winchester 748 20" barrel/2720 fps
Shoots way under MOA no matter what I put it in. Started with 44.0 and worked up in .5 grain increments. At 46.5 accuracy immediately went south, at 47 even worse... 45.5 and 46.0 were about tied. Only two semis I've shot the load in has been a Ruger SR762 and a SA Scout Squad. Both were about moa, bolt guns .25-.5.
In hunting rifles I usually use 165s, Hornady SST, Nosler Petition, Hornady SP-BT, Sierra 165 HP-BT with the same results. 2740 fps +-/20" barrel depending on the bullet.

It is the old AA#9 formula. #9 load data is used safely since it is just a tad slower than the new #9. Stick to standard primers because mag primers will cause pressure spikes.

Alliant's PP 2000-MR is great in .308 as well as the 35 Whelen, two of my favorites.

Waayyy back when I asked the same question of an old friend he answered me 748. I never had reason to change. I shot the 5 hole group below at 200 yards, and put the hole in the cent piece which is mounted on a dummy .308 at 100 yards at an NRA LEO course. The cent target was a "fun" shoot there. We were given 5 shots to hit the cent piece, I got it in two just missing it on the first shot. Rifle was a Savage 110 BAT/s, Nosler BT or Sierra Match king and 748. Maybe not world class accuracy but sufficient enough, there "MAY" be better powders but I'll not waste the money or time on whatever they are. :-) One shooter there took five shots (one of the 2 best there with unknown ammo in a McMillan rifle) we were not believing he took 5 shots to hit it, till we saw the cent piece... he shot it ALL 5 times making a compass rose around the perimeter and one hole dead center. The hole in the .308 in the pic below I made at 100 yards at a local range.

PS, my DPMS LR-308 is pretty much what Dave said about the AR-10 picky, picky. My Springfield M1A is even worse. So much so I was hesitant to take either to the NRA precision rifle class but I really wanted a backup just in case even though neither held a candle to the Savage bolt gun.
