My observation exactly!!! I just really don't understand it.
The stainless guns are poorly executed these days. Nothing like my M69.

As can be seen, this is about as close of a modern copy of the Old S&W Outdoorsman as can be had. The OutDoorsman was chambered for the 38/44 cartridge not the 357 S&W Magnum. Some were cut deeper, outside of the factory, but from the factory, 38/44. Perhaps, you were thinking of the Registered Magnum. Kevin

I'm very familiar with the 38-44. The predecessor to the 357 Magnum.
I was referring to the gun, not the chambering.

I was not aware that any of the 38/44 OD revolvers had the checkered rib. I just checked and some did. Learning every day.

I'd love to see these offered in 38 Special. But, these days it's only practical to chamber in 357 Magnum.
This particular model accepts a COAL of 1.730", so plenty of nose length is still available.

These S&W classics look extremely well made, so, I couldn't resist the urge any longer, and am purchasing a model 57 classic, I'm a sucker for the 41 magnum. My LGS had 2 in stock, and both were excellent, this is going to be my first S&W revolver, about time too, I think it was a good decision.

That's great Trent. I'm constantly on the look out for good S&W Classics. I rarely slow down by the Stainless Guns. It's just a waste at this point. I've got a couple good ones from the past. Guess that was the Good Old Days...

"The good ole days" may make a return, you know, when we're gone, and someone is selling off our lifetimes worth of excellent revolvers, rifles, and reloading gear, supplies.
