I was elated when I stopped by my LGS and they'd gotten in a S&W 27 Classic. This one has been on my radar for some years, but has been elusive.
I found one a couple years back, but the barrel gap was enormous and I passed. Otherwise, the gun was perfect.
I simply will not order a S&W Revolver. So many are plain and simple train wrecks. But, generally the Classics are good. I've found flawless examples of the 19, 25, 24 and 57. Today, I put a 27 on layaway.
It's the 6.5" and I can't find a flaw in the gun. Barrel gap is .004" on all six chambers. Throats are .358" and zero endshake. Lock up is rock solid.
Tim will post a picture soon. Hope to have more info in the coming days.

Thanks Tim...
As can be seen, this is about as close of a modern copy of the Old S&W Outdoorsman as can be had.
The front sight works so much better than a ramp for my eyes.
I'll put on a Tromix Thumb Latch to cover the safety and slap on some Macassar Ebony Combat Grips. Hope it shoots as good as it looks...

Are the top strap and rib checkered? Greg, I can't tell you the exact pattern. I'll check later this week when I go back. Sorry...

Are the top strap and rib checkered? Can't speak for Encores example but the new 27s I've seen have been checkered but, , , ,. It is a far cry from the checkering of the past. Not very sharp and almost pressed in looking. Plus no checkering on the rear sight strap. Hope Encores looks better. I would have preferred it if they just left it off.

I'll snap some pictures and post in the coming days.
This is my fifth Classic and I'm very pleased with the previous one.
Time will tell on this one...

Congratulations on a fine weapon! I am hearing more and more these "classic" Smiths are worth their money.

Thanks and I'm in agreement on the S&W Classics.
I handled the one 27 Classic with an obscene barrel gap, but the rest have been excellent.
My shop has a good selection of Stainless S&Ws. But, all have significant issues.
Occasionally, I walk up on one built like a Swiss Watch. Wish they all were, but I'll add one that is here and there...

Are the top strap and rib checkered? Greg, the top of the rib is heavily checkered. The top of the frame is scored with a grid pattern just enough to break the glare. I have no issues with it at all. Others obviously do and that's ok too. I doubt any manufacturer could please everyone. Picture of the top later today...

Thanks Again Tim...
This way everyone can see and decide for themselves.
As previously posted, I have no issues with it. I'd love to see more S&W Classics.
I hope to add a 6" 17 and 48 if I can inspect them first...

Good catch OP. I look at all of the new Smiths that LGS get in and it seems that in the last 6-8 months all of the blued ones were really nice with fit and finish . The stainless guns are pretty much hit or miss but with a lot more misses. Maybe the blued guns are on a different assembly line ? Anyway a local shop just got in a new blued 4” model 29 and I couldn’t find a single flaw . Just beautiful.
