Seems like the BFR gets compared to the freedom arms or the freedom arms gets compared to customs, what doesn't seem to ever get taked about is the cylinder wall thickness so I put a mic to some of my guns cylinders and here's what I came up with. BFR, 45colt has a chamber to chamber thickness .162" and a chamber to outer-wall thickness of .080" Freedom arms, 475LB has a chamber to chamber thickness of .105" and a chamber to outer-wall thickness of .105" John Linebaugh built .475 has a chamber to chamber thickness .138" and a chamber to outer-wall thickness of .094" Even with its small cylinder the 83 has got the most metal in the thinnest point.

Have to look where the pressure pushes and pulls. The mid and large frame Ruger 45s have the same chamber to OD thickness, yet they will take different max loads. I was going to start a thread on this ballance, but you beat me to it.
The 2 thicknesses can't be too far apart, and they have different support structures.
Hope others chime in.

Interesting how the ratchets differ so much. Here's a Bowen 500 Linebaugh cylinder.

"Interesting how the ratchets differ so much" Yes so much for the thought they are all using cylinder blanks! Here's a older 475 that uses the 45-70 brass made by a friend of mine.

Someone needs to post a pic of a 353 Casull. That is a 5 shot cylinder with thick walls!

shows one of the changes BFR made when they went to the JT ser. numbers bigger cylinders! your .475 BFR has thicker cylinder walls than my older pre JT 45colt BFR. very cool.

I'm thinking BFR copied John's cylinder dia.
