I have this 22-4 that was done by Turnbull. It's a nice shooter.

I'd like to see some more pics of custom 45 acp revolvers if you have any. How does chopping the barrel affect the guns balance and accuracy? Okay, this is at least a copy of my first 4” Model 1917. This is a Brazilian contract 1917. I have built many along the way and sold them when someone wanted them more than I did. I carried this one on duty for a while. My speed loader carrier would hold 4 full moon clips. This is my first attempt at a full blown custom revolver. I wanted a 4”, ACP revolver with adjustable sights. The factory made, maybe a double handful of the Model 1950 and fewer of the Model 1955. Those I found were priced way beyond my means at the time. I had been through the S&W Armorer’s school and bought a 1955 cylinder. I had a Model 28-2. I unscrewed the barrel and had it bored and rifled for the ACP bullet. While the barrel was gone, I fit and timed the cylinder. When the barrel returned, I installed it, It need at least two full turns removed from the shoulder to get to the cylinder and then I needed to remove some from the barrel root to correct the cylinder gap. I also rounded the grip frame and changed the frame lug. It is the top revolver in this photo. The bottom revolver is a Model 625-6 Mountain Gun, 45 ACP, with square conversion stocks. My Model 28 was at least 3 decades prior to the Mountain Gun. This is what happens when someone tells you about a butchered Model 25-2. When I got it, the barrel had been cut to 3.5” with a chop saw and never squared up. The grip frame had been rounded to K frame, the hammer was bobbed (the only decent work on the revolver), no front sight, in short, a MESS! It came with a 4.25” barrel with a Patridge fore sight. I removed and replaced the barrel. We were moving at the time and my meager shop was in boxes so I shipped it to Andy Horvath and asked him to make it right. He did, in spades! There is a gold McGivern bead added to the Patridge, the grooves in the backstrap were finished, conversion to DAO with an absolutely superb trigger action, and much more. I have shot this revolver and wish I had it when I competed in PPC! Absolutely wonderful! And while it is not my edc, it has been carried. I have other custom revolvers, perhaps for another thread. One of my prized possessions. I'm not sure if it's a Jovino or not.

It appears to have all the hallmarks of a Jovino. That, or a copy by a skilled gunsmith.

Yep, my only DA is a S&W 25 Model of 1989...
Using Power Pistol Powder, the performance impressed me enough to build or convert 5 Single Actions to shoot the cartridge.
Some beautiful and useful steel shown in this thread!!!

You guys REALLY know your Smiths! Beautiful pictures one and all. I have a snub 325PD and love it. Gave it CT Laser grips and it is one of the most easily carried while being comfortable to shoot revolvers I own. Doesn't help I am a huge fan of anything 45 (plus 41 mag). Thank you all for the information and the beautiful pictures!

Was late to the 45acp revolver . Couple years ago I picked up a JM 625. Now my favorite rang gun!

"If the caliber doesn't start with a "4" I'm not interested" :-) But don't them I'm a secret admirer of .357 mag and .38 super.

Rey, the first one is a bear skull, second one is a lion skull & the third one is a Javelina skull taken just out of Ozona, Texas along the Pecos river. Shot 2 of them there with my OM 41 magnum shorty at a friends place.

I'd like to see some more pics of custom 45 acp revolvers if you have any. How does chopping the barrel affect the guns balance and accuracy? I'm not one to be chopping revolver barrels down but from my experiences with box stock revolvers, balance depends on the frame, barrel taper, and caliber. For balance I "generally" prefer 4"-5" barrels. I'm sure others have cut and crowned many revolver barrels who can speak to improvement or loss of accuracy but I'd think that unless the barrel is cut really short, cut crooked and not crowned well it may be a matter of finding a bullet weight the cut barrel "likes" ? :-)
