I picked up a new stainless Marlin 1895 45/70. I got the longer barrels version with a 19” barrel. Very nice gun. I plan to put a WW happy trigger in it and remove the safety and plug it.
A few thing I don’t like about it. The rear peep doesn’t seem too durable. I can move it a little by hand. Also not a huge fan of the long scope rail. I may scope it at some point but not set up as a scout rifle. Plus I’m not sure if it has a rear sight dovetail under the mount. I really prefer standard open sights over peep sights. Oh and the threaded barrel. Could do without that. But an easy fix. Have it turned down and recrowned.
But over all a very nice package. Will see how it shoots this weekend.

I picked up one of the trapper models several months ago. I really like it as well. That one came with the standard Skinner sight. I went ahead and purchased the entire package for the wild West guns upgrade . If you do the same just make sure you order the one that's made for the new Ruger models. The replacement ejector is not interchangeable with past models. They are definitely well made and quite handy.

I got a GBL yesterday. It’s the “Guide” model in blue with the 19” barrel. Mine was lightly used and the original owner had put a Skinner peep sight on it along with a muzzle brake. Also got 13 boxes of ammo in the deal. Hopefully I can make it to the range this weekend.

I have older 1895s and bought the first Ruger made trapper model I saw. Its nice. But the older are better. The New ones are big step up over the Rem guns.

This is one of the things I've been wondering. Is quality of the Ruger made guns that much better than the previous models?

This is one of the things I've been wondering. Is quality of the Ruger made guns that much better than the previous models? Just my opinion - without spending 3 to 5 times the price of the current production lineup firearms you won't see the same quality as firearms built a few decades ago. For example, pre64 Winchesters have soul and are built like a tank. That said I think the current quality of the Marlins is good for the MSRP.
