Has anyone had a bad batch of bullets come out of the toaster oven?
Was trying something different. I think that I baked the powder off one side.
Can I just coat them again?

I have had 2 issues with toaster oven PC bullets, neither was the ovens fault.
The first one was a powder that had to cool a bit before you moved the bullets. If you moved the bullets before the PC cooled some it would sluff and bunch up on the outside of the bullet. Turn the heat off and let then cool 5-10 minutes trouble solved.
The second one is I left bullets in the oven too long, 400° for 45-60 minutes would cause the bullets to deform badly. 15-20 minutes and turn the heat off and open the door, no trouble but take the timer on my watch seriously when it is going off.
Both issues just caused the bullets to get remelted and we get to play again...

As long as it's just voids and not huge clumps If I get imperfections, I re-coat them.

They are completely uncoated on one side. About 15-20%

My oven was hotter than the dial setting. It melted the bullets and deformed them. I got a thermometer and figured out the setting of I think 375 degrees and marked it on the dial. Not a problem since.

Non stick parchment paper cured my issues. I no longer get a bare skunk stripe on one side. Also dont over cook them. I let mine sit a few minutes to be sure the coating is not sticky. I really shake the excess powder off in a strainer basket to avoid the pc boogers. I had to quite a few bad ones to figure out my method.

I bought one of those silicone no stick grill mats and cut it to fit the pan I baked powder coat in before I gave it up. Worked great and would last forever.
I have still got a few pounds of powder a guy gave me when I traded some lead to him for some primers. He got it as leftovers from where he worked. It worked, but often took two coats. No problem recoating and rebaking. I just like traditional style lube better

In my years of powder coating,, I too had an occasional "issue" that caused me to look at the "why?" did that happen.
In the early stages,, not getting enough of the powder shaken off,, resulted in a goo mess on one side. The airsoft pellets got stuck in many of the HP bullets I coated. I've since stopped using the airsoft pellet method. Bullet getting stuck to the aluminum foil pan liner. Re-using the same aluminum foil too many times,, caused that.
But to have no powder coating on one side,, I suspect either a wrong liner material,, causing it to pull off when cooled, or not enough powder coating to properly bake & adhere to the bullet. Shook too much off, or the powder didn't adhere to the lead enough.
Proper heat,, followed by a proper timeframe,, and just enough powder to coat has been the key to good coated bullets.
Lastly,, MAYBE it is a bad batch of powder? Moisture? etc might have caused it as well. But this is just a guess.
To avoid moisture issues,, I keep my powder stored in double zip-loc bags. Those are stored in a tupperware plastic container. (Actual tupperware.) The larger batch of powder I got was cut into 3 batches. I took (2) of those batches,, put into double zip-loc bags,, then I vacuum sealed them for longer term storage. Once I use up the other bag,, I know that powder will be DRY when I cut the vacuum seal.

Same power I've been using for a while now.
I've always used non-stick aluminum foil.
Only difference is I tried baking them for 20 minutes instead of my normal 13 minutes. I keep seeing guy's talk about baking for the 20min. Definitely didn't work for me.
Just wondering if it's okay to re coat these, or should I throw them in my scrap box.
I would of already just pitched them but it's 200 357 bullets.
Next time I'll experiment with less bullets. lol

My oven might be getting hotter then it's supposed to be. I'll have to check that.

My oven might be getting hotter then it's supposed to be. I'll have to check that. Does yours have a thermostat to control temps? If so, it's probably marked wrong. Also as it gets older it won't get as hot on the same settings. Or it could go bad and get too hot. Basically don't trust it. Get an oven thermometer and just go by it.

Oven thermometer or do the hammer test is the way to go. I heat my for 12-13 minutes after pre heating the oven, but that's my oven. Be sure to knock off any excess paint, if they are well coated you can bounce them pretty hard.

I do shake off the extra powder pretty well. I'm thinking my oven is getting to hot to go 20 minutes. My bullets look and shoot good running them at 13 minutes. Some bullets cooked for 13 minutes. ibb.co/0ZfjZLribb.co/GH4cxS2Justin
