Hey Ax, if you compared the little Charter in .32 to the Taurus model 327, which would you choose in general? If you were only going to use .32 mag would you say there is a difference in quality between the two?
I'd like a 6 shot .32 mag snubby and these two interest me, but its basically impossible to actually touch either of them before I buy. I have a Taurus 856 that I like but it took some work... It looks like the Taurus 327 is built on the same frame?

Well, I'm just glad they don't make one in 3" or even 4"!
I'd kind of have a problem not buying one, which would lead to dies, brass, moulds, etc. all over again.
I like Charter revolvers and I like the 32 Mag, but I'm on a "diet."
Thanks for sharing AxeHandle. I always appreciate the time and effort in all the nice photos.

I'm not Ax', but even with as much positive change that's gone on with the Taurus revolvers lately, I still prefer the Charter lockwork - their DA and SA trigger pulls. Easier to work on a Taurus, but well worth it on the Charter.
I know a lot of people who are just fine with the small-frame Taurus actions, so my personal preference on that may or may not be all that common.

Charter does make a 3" 32 Mag, the Professional. Fixed sights, seven rounds, alloy frame, wood grips. Tombstone has them for $406 and free shipping. Mine will be here soon enough. charterfirearms.com/products/model-73230

I just heard a strange noises on my desk and had to dig around to figure out what it was.
It was my checkbook calling you bad names!
I've seen that one and it's got a lot going for it. They were out of stock everywhere when I was looking, so I turned my attention to the new six-shot Rossi 357 RP63 in 3". If I have to wait much longer for that, I may come back and look at this one again.
I'd love to hear about yours when you get it and see a pic or two if you have time. I believe it's on the Bulldog frame. I'd prefer a six-shot on the slightly smaller frame, but this one is still hard to resist.
I THINK that 9mm Speed-Strips or Quick-Strips might just hold 32 Mag cases. When I had a 32 Mag revolver, I carried spare ammo in ten-round clips (not magazines) that used to come in the cases of 5.56 ammo when I was in the Army. I use 44 Quick Strips for 30/30 cartridges for a break-open rifle, but I don't think they bother to list some of the things that will fit in their strips, either Bianchi or Tuff Products.

FWIW the Taurus products look good. Very S&W like. If they could only provide some customer support. Had quite a few in hand when I hit my snag. When I saw their true side I purged every Taurus product from my house. Never again.

It's a real shame too, because they have really stepped it up on the actual product, but I still hear all the same CS horror stories. The 605 I had was nice. No goofy aesthetic crap to make it look new and unique, good sights, nice, basic revolver.

Only small bore charter I ever owned was a 3inch in .32 long. Was great lil gun. Best smallbore Charter I ever shot was a 6inch .22 or pathfinder my dad traded for when I was a teenager. Durned thing had the small undercover frame size Tiny grip scales on it bug i always thought it deserved the larger Bulldog grips Lawdy that was an amazing cheap shooter

Interested to see what you get. Alloy frame must be a new thing for the Professional. I have two older ones, both stainless frames. Funny thing is the weight listed in your link (22oz.) is the same weight listed in my older catalog for the stainless. Alloy guns seem to average about 16/17 oz. Mine have been a bit of a journey to get them right so interested to hear your shooting comments. They can be great pocket plinkers.

I know that they do make lighter versions of their other revolvers with aluminum cylinder frames. We'll know soon enough. Mine should arrive this week.

Very curious to know when you get it.
Before ordered the 357 Mag Pug, I e-mailed Charter a question. Nick Ecker called me to answer.
My question was whether the GRIP frame on the stainless "High Polish" Mag Pug was steel or aluminum.
Mr. Ecker said "aluminum - none of them are stainless."
I know SOME of them are plastic.
When I bought my first stainless, 3" Bulldog in 82, I was advised by a gunsmith specificaly to buy the stainless one, because it had a STAINLESS grip frame. It sure enough did, as did the next one I bought. The blued ones all had aluminum grip frames. No idea why the difference and not sure they were all like that, but those two were.

Cleaned the chambers on the range Charter Arms "Pink Lady" this morning. A necessary regular task if you want to show customer they can easily shoot 32ACP, 32 short, 32 long, and 32 Mag out of it. Took the time to run a magnet over it. The cylinder and barrel are steel. The cylinder latch, ejector, trigger, all visible pins, and action parts are steel.

My Professional has arrived. I can report that the cylinder frame is definitely aluminum. (Grip frame, too.) I confirmed with a magnet, although the color difference is obvious in person.
Trigger felt pretty good in both double and single action. Grips are a little blocky looking up close, but feel fine.
I can't bring it home until next week due to MD laws. I'll get an accurate weight then.

Update on the Charter Professional in 32 H&R Mag. My kitchen scale says 19.8 ounces.
The trigger guard has a sharp edge that may need to be rounded off a bit. No big deal. Hopefully I'll get to shoot it soon.
