Nice job with that big 460! I did that one year in August on the Idaho side of the highway, yikes was it ever hot! The flies were everywhere and I decided I didn't want to do that again. Congratulations on a dandy cow elk.

Curious if the petals from the CEB were found and if so how far they went?? Trapr Gutless method. They are somewhere in the middle. Almost 1.75” hole through the back side of the impact shoulder. That’s animal #9 with a cutting edge pistol bullet. Bore dia of 357, 44, 45. All but 2 were elk. Piles of rock chucks….petals exited those. Petals exited the 2 whitetail deer. This cow was the longest recovery at about 30-40 feet. And the shortest shot. Shots have now ranged from this sub 50 yard shot to 240 yards. All revolvers. 240 yards with a revolver? I’d like to get more details on that one, sounds like a hell of a shot.

Outstanding.
Color me jealous with such an early handgun elk season. Here,, it's WAY too warm to even consider hunting unless you can get a critter down & into the cool in under an hour. Temps still in the high 80's to low 90's and a heat index that'll stifle you quickly!

Aa7 powder. 200 cutting edge. 1900fps. Leupold 4x with custom shop cds turret. Plug that data in a ballistic calc and you’ll probably be surprised how flat those 200 shoot at 1900 fps Same gun and optic. Just a different bullet in this write up. imgur.com/a/7MMXr4P☝️link to the drop data figuring that would be the next question. 200 CE at 1900 fps

I have a thing about long range hunting, if you have the time invested to develop the skill and you know your limits I am all for it. Notice I didn’t define long range shooting at game, to one guy he is money to 50 yards and the chance at a deer pops up at 75 it is best to pass it get 25 yards closer. To another way out there is in play and ethical. Situations also play into the decision, good rest, unspooled game, time to make a good shot after properly ranging the animal, is there snow to track the game after the shot. So on and so forth.
When Dustin Linebaugh killed his Alaskan grizzly at 176 yards with a traditional 475 Linebaugh Bisley Vaquero he wasn’t being a slob, he had the skills to do it ethically. Years ago on this site (might have even been the original one) some shmuck from Montana was bragging about killing his cow elk way out there at 250 yards plus, I think with 500 S&W but that wasn’t the important part. Said hell if Elmer could do it so can I, of course he isn’t Elmer and even though he got his elk it was anything but an ethical kill and the animal suffered needlessly for his arrogance.
I was just curious the details of your that is all, I know you put the trigger time in.

Good gear doesn’t hurt but the range time is more important.

Congrats may have to try some of those 44 bullets since speer has forgotten to make deep curl bullets for hand loaders.
