Looking at a ss nm flattop and a blued one i picked up today, I noted the rear sight is a bit different. One more square other rounded more like a regular nm sight. Both steel body.

That seems like quite difference, how are they if comparing same side instead of opposite?

I’ve got a pile of those sights that came off customs that now have Bowen sights. I’ll have to go see if any of mine are like that.
The rounded one isn’t off an OM gun by chance is it?
I just checked an older blue one with a new SS one and they’re the same….squared off.

I noticed that same thing today when looking at how 2dogs new rear sight would fit on my FT 44 Special Micro rear sight. I’m sure Ronnie and Fermin have taken the differences into account.

Ronnie has more Rugers taken apart in his shop than most guys own.
I know that man. He won’t rest until every mystery is solved…

Looking at a ss nm flattop and a blued one i picked up today, I noted the rear sight is a bit different. One more square other rounded more like a regular nm sight. Both steel body. The one on the left is an old model sight. The right is the new model Micro designed for the flat top. They are different. If Ruger is mixing these up i definately need to address this. I will be makin an old model version but it is definately different. If any one has a new model sixgun that is square like the old model, please inform me so i can resolve this immediatly. Ronnie OK Editing and adding. Just noticed that you said both were new models. Then we have a descrepency. either someone mounted an old model sight on there or Ruger is doing Ruger things again and i certainly did not catch that. One serial number off huh? Please call me cuz i need to address this imediately. R

My guns are both new models. I do not believe the sight was swapped. One square, one round.

I've got a couple of the NM mid-frame FT's in blue and mine are all square as well. Maybe the rounded sight was only on the stainless guns?

That seems like quite difference, how are they if comparing same side instead of opposite? I checked my NM .44 Special flat top and I seem to have the expected sight. I was struck by how much more pronounced the details are than on proffesor's example, the guy polishing really leaned into the wheel I guess.

The first Flattops ALL had the squared sight. Then they were changed to the rounded off sights, when this happened … I do not think it was a specific time, or model. I have observed the 520 prefix guns were square. The 50th 44’s & 357’s were square, I had a first run 45/45ACP that was square. A little off topic, but this VINTAGE sight was made by Micro and was offered as a replacement up-grade to the Blackhawk back in the day. Notice rounded a rear/top and the square nose. This sight resides on a OM 4.6” 41 mag.
