I got to play with these some this week and learned a few things. Installation isn't hard, but a couple of things help: 1. MAKE SURE THE SET SCREW IS LOOSE. It's easy to forget, ask me how I know. 2. To remove the old sight you can push it to the left with the hex wrench to depress the spring then pop it out with your hand. 3. The new spring is much better. Use it. 4. Insert spring, angle new sight in, then use the included hex wrench like a lock pick to compress the spring until the sight seats. It just takes a little fiddling with and you'll get the touch 5. The Ruger sight seems to have pretty good consistency of dimensions because this blade fits the contour and the width really, really nicely. There is no question when you have the sight centered. Super easy. 6. It's time to stock up on a few clean factory sights. Some of my old ones are pretty crusty. Security Six with the factory pinned blade makes for a really nice target arrangement. Needing a Fermin front for this one. I never had enough Bowen sights to justify upgrading this gun, but I have no excuse now.
White outline on a Forkin 32. This arrangement works well with a black blade front sight because the little bit of black above the white lines gives you a black-all-the-way-across alignment, which is easy on the eyes.
I hoped to use these round notch rears with a FA style fiber optic front but in a DX blade. Since that doesn't appear to exist, I tried it on this red ramp Security Six and I really like it. I generally don't love red ramp sights because my eye always catches the bottom of the ramp and can't decide if that needs to fit perfectly in the notch instead of just lining up the top- it's not a technical issue, it's a my brain issue. The lower notch allows me to see the black ramp under the insert with no suggestion I'm aligning anything down there and my brain can focus on the top of the sights. This arrangement was a pleasant surprise, though I know I'm not the first to recognize the value of a deeper notch.

Any plans to offer one with a .140 sight opening? Or have I missed it and it already exists?

Any plans to offer one with a .140 sight opening? Or have I missed it and it already exists? Didnt see a need for it yet, but, you gentlemen can easily sway me into something that could be usefull. Or if you just so desire, Your wish is my command! The sky is the limit here and these will certainly be a great baseline for developments! R

Potatojudge makes cogent observations on sighting. The FOCAL PLANE of aim on a square blade front & square notch rear sight is the top of the front sight. For conventional POI (Point of Aim) marksmanship, the top of the rear sight sits on the same plane as the front. The plane of the sights forms the base of a sight picture.
Deep vs shallow notch rear A deep notch facilitates concentration on the front sight----the eye's final focus is at hammer fall. A shallow notch pulls the eye to the bottom of the notch or, tries to equalize focus between front & rear sights. Any distraction at hammer fall throws the shot.
Narrow vs wide notch Sight selection comes down to personal vision, but not personal vision alone. Strong eyes tend to be more accurate with a narrow sliver of light to either side of the blade. * A narrower window flattens the plane of the sights. Remember, sighting is done on the top of the sights, not the sides. Too thin a window impedes marksmanship in low light. * A wider window facilitates speed in weak light. * Too wide a window visually destabilizes the front sight.
Marksmanship is the application of skill to hit a target. Focussed practice drives skill. The developed eye reads detail the unpracticed eye misses.
I’ve talked sight proportions in the past. Ronnie’s tooling skills now open the discussion to further advance sight & sighting knowledge with information from the FIRING LINE.’ David Bradshaw

Every custom I've ever built wears a Bowen Target Rear. Last year, I used my last on a conversion I did and thought "what's next?". Well, Ronnie Wells is what's next. He sent me three of these sights to test and I'm very impressed. What they offer is the following (complete re-hash of what has already been said). 1) Serrated, black back edge set at an angle to reduce glare 2) Any number of notch/groove configurations 3) Taller blade which improves vertical travel 4) They look right and are not disproportionate to the overall gun 5) Easy to install 6) Priced right I just added one to my .30 Carbine Blackhawk (0.390" tall, 0.120" square notch. All black edge). Someone asked for a profile shot. Here it is: It looks and works perfectly. In fact, you have to look close to notice the added size. As for installation, here's my quick "how to": 1) Loosen the rear set screw 2) Remove the Ruger sight's horizontal screw 3) Wiggle out the old blade 4) Remove the factory spring 5) Install Ronnie's provided spring 6) Take the Allen wrench he provides and compress the spring 7) Fit the RDW sight. Once flush on all edges, lock the set screw 8) Re-install the horizontal screw With Bowen sights now gone, these are a life saver for those accustomed to his Target model. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

I didn't know the Bowen sight was discontinued. Sounds like these are right on time. The cost savings is a nice added benefit.

These sights shoot! Ronnie and Fermin sent me some to try out. I am super excited about these. I have shot them in the shade and in the sun (no glare on a bright sunny 105 degree day). I have shot them with custom fronts and with factory fronts. I have shot them on new and old model guns. I put a #6 on a 4 5/8" old model 45colt that is well used with a Fermin tla front sight on it, the rear sight helped me be able to shoot the gun much better. I will be adding this to all of my rugers. It is a well made, product that delivers more value than its price. I am very happy to have been able to help in a small way. We are lucky to have men like Fermin and Ronnie to step up with their skill and knowledge to fill voids. I will post pictures as soon as I figure that out.

I do not have one to try out, so Im just asking questions.
How do these work when adjusted left or right to accommodate off center front sights?
Does the set screw easily gall the aluminum Ruger sight body?
Will the blade stay in place without the set screw?
Are you continuing to develop the design, so a 2nd generation might be expected once more bugs are worked out through buyer feedback?
Are any of the reviewers pulling their Bowen sights, and swapping back to a Ruger with the insert?

Loosen the set screw and adjust as normal..retighten the set screw. I have not seen any galling on the rear sight base on my guns. I have not tried it without the set screw, but I don't find the set screw objectionable. This is a option to the Bowen sights that are no longer available. The last question is for Fermin and Ronnie, that being said they are a great product and I am behind them 100%.

The sight picture looks close to the LPA sight Magnum Research uses on the current BFR with the all black blade, but better finished. Can't wait to try one under heavy recoil to try it out. 525's at 1400 are a whole nother world of abuse.

I see where these will enhance the Ruger MK series as well.

Got my 3 installed but didn't get to shoot today , that will change tomorrow. They look awesome & I predict you are going to get slammed with orders. Thanks to both of you!
