I RECENTLY RECEIVED A FANCY FLORAL CARVED LONGHORN COMPANION, FOR 5" N FRAMES, FROM DOC BARRANTI. HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE TO GIVE IT ANY FIELD TIME YET BUT MAN DOES IT LOOK NICE, AND, BASED UPON MY EXPERIENCE WITH A LONGHORN COMPANION FOR 5.5" RUGER SINGLE ACTION REVOLVERS, I KNOW IT WILL WORK GREAT. NOT ONLY GOOD FOR 5" N FRAMES BUT 4" AND 3.5" N FRAMES FIT GREAT IN IT AND I CAN GET BY WITH A 5 7/8ths" MODEL 27-2 IN IT TOO. PICTUERD ARE AN ENGRAVED, NICKEL PLATED, WOLF & KLAR 4" 44 SPECIAL WITH GENUINE MOP GRIPS, A NICKELED 3.5" MODEL 27-2 WITH FITTED SHEEP HORN GRIPS BY ZANE, A 5" 27-2 (HOLSTERED) WEARING KEN DRISKILL ELK STAG GRIPS, A 5" MODEL 25-7 OF 1989 45 COLT WEARING SAMBAR STAG GRIPS AND A 5" MODEL 625-3 OF 1989 45 ACP WEARING ELK STAG GRIPS. CERTAINLY A PROPER HOLSTER FOR A BBQ.

Very nice! I pick the 5” holsters too. I know it’s tacky but under the circumstances

Nice Holster, and Great guns. I have looked at the Longhorn Companion. I have never seen a good picture of how it hooks to your belt. I think it is reversable, strong side and cross draw is it not?...tj

tj: THE BELT SLIDE GOES ON YOUR PANT BELT. THE HOLSTER SLIPS IN BETWEEN THE PANT BELT AND THE BELT SLIDE. THE HAMMER STRAP DOUBLES AS A HOLSTER RETENTION DEVICE AS IT HAS AT THE LOWER END OF THE STRAP THE SNAP THAT SNAPS ONTO THE BELT SLIDE. WORKS STRONG SIDE AND CROSS DRAW.

Nice holster. I also have some genuine MOP grips on my SSM. I had them backed with micarta to help keep them from cracking.

Nice holster. I also have some genuine MOP grips on my SSM. I had them backed with micarta to help keep them from cracking. PLEASE POST A COUPLE OF PICTURES OF THE BACKING. DOES IT WORK? I HAVE SEVERAL PAIR OF MOP GRIPS AND USE THEM MOSTLY FOR SHOW. I HESITATE TO CARRY A MOP'ed REVOLVER AFIELD BECAUSE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF CRACKING AND CHIPPING.

The backing works to strengthen it, but doesn't totally eliminate the chance it'll get damaged. I'll get some pics tomorrow. I'm going to be shooting anyway, so I can get it when I clean it.
Get a thin piece of micarta. I used 1/8" for mine. Then just trace your grips onto it. Cut it out close. Sand and polish to fit. Then using epoxy glue, affix it to the grip. It helps support it, especially around the grip screw.
Mine were made in the sixties but had been in the box in a desk drawer since then.

I can see the MOP grips but I dont know what I am looking at specifically. Can anyone give a little history or reason why these are so important? Educate the ignorant here.
Freaking BEAUTIFUL weapons! Oh be still my beating heart! It is ok to rub it in that I dont have one. I can live vicariously through your pictures for now. LOL. One day though, one day.
Edit to add... I just picked up on it. Mother Of Pearl. Duh. I haven't had my coffee infusion yet. Are these original Smith grips or were they just made long ago?

Good looking rig, Rey! I use one of Doc's Longhorn Companions for my 5.5" Blackhawks and my 6" longslide 1911. They are just about perfect for general field carry.

x101: I SUSPECT THE WOLF & KLAR 44 SPECIAL LEFT THE FACTORY AS A BLUE GUN WITH WOOD STOCKS AND WAS EMBELLISHED LATER. I LUCKED INTO THE GUN BACK IN THE 1970's, IIRC, AND BELIEVE THE EMBELLISHMENT, AND ADDED MOP GRIPS, HAPPENED LONG BEFORE THEN.
