Does anyone know of a provider of the 45 caliber 270 SAA bullet in powder coat? I've never been able to find any. Thanks for any leads.

Matt's Bullets offers powder coat. You have to call and ask him though. He doesn't have the ordering option for that on his website. I use his Lyman 454424 version with powder coat and it's been a good shooter.

I purchased some cast, coated and sold by Horace Wahl (Username - "wheelguns") on this forum a couple of years ago. Very pleased with the quality and a heckuva nice guy. You might DM him.
I can also endorse Matt's Bullets. I have been very happy with the .475's I purchased from his site.

There were two basic versions of this bullet that I remember. The first was a direct copy of Dave Scoviles design by one of the CB crowd (sorry, I can't remember his name) and I don't remember the HP configuration if it had one. The second was the same basic outline with a HP configuration of mine. The solids from either will be the same, but the HP configuration will be different and unmistakable. Either way it's a good shooting bullet, but the second HP version will kill much better. Your choice!

I received a beautiful batch of bullets from Eric (boatswainsmate) and got them loaded up with several different powders. Gonna try 'em this week. Thanks to all who posted, and especially to Eric for the generous offer.

I haven't ordered from Matt's in a while. Didn't know he would PC, if asked. Glad I read this, nothing in 45 bore here.

Whellguns (Horace) is da Man. A second shoutout here for him.
I really enjoyed my conversations with him; and his bullets were outstanding. Can't go wrong with his work.

I got to the range this afternoon and tried boatswainsmate's 45-270-SAA powder coated bullets with three different powders. The average of ten bullets was 288.5 gr. with a spread of 286.0-289.5, which I consider excellent QA. Using Gordon's Reloading Tool I loaded 5 each of 3 loads with all three powders, for a total of 45 rounds for this first test. 5 @ 1130 fps, 5 @ 1100 fps, and 5 @ 1070 fps. The powders were 4227, 2400 and N105. N105 was the clear winner, with all three 5-shot groups nice and tight. The two lighter loads both shot into less than an inch, with the fastest load grouping in 1.25" @ 20 yards in spite of me pulling one to the left more than usual. Thank you Eric for the excellent bullets and a most gracious offer.

Man, I do love that Vihtavouri, my favorite. I do like the N105 and N110 for a little more oompf, but my real love is for the N340. It is an all around powder with a long list of calibers doing a wide range of velocities.
clean, accurate, linear. The Holy Trinity for shooting.
