Shot a Thompson at Knob Creek and it was everything I thought it would be

I have an M1A1 and it’s pretty cool. Don’t shoot it often but it’s fun to let folks shoot it that have never had an opportunity before.

I had a kid working for me for a while that played a lot of video games like call of duty. So I took him to the local indoor range where they have a host of different fully automatic guns. I gave him a wad of cash and told him to burn it up in the range with whatever he wanted to shoot on the wall. I took a turn with a few of them. The p90 was interesting but not my cup of tea. The MP5 and The Tommy Gun were by far our favorites. Even shooting it in semi-auto was somewhat funny. I'd be curious to see what it be like to shoot a different platform with the same cartridge just to see what the recoil impulse is like on those too. A guy carrying one of those on a regular basis would not have to go to the gym very often.

That’s pretty cool. My grandpa started working for the Ohio Department of Corrections in 1960. He said they were sent a Thompson and two cases of 45 Auto Rim ammo. He tried to explain that the ammunition wouldn’t work in the Thompson and he offered to take the ammo off their hands.

There was a local to me courthouse that displayed one issued to the county back in either the 20’s or 30’s.
Eventually it was locked up in a county controlled lockbox at local bank vs. its former public wall display.
I knew a now deceased reserve deputy who claimed to have once fired it - he was in love lol
