Thinking about making the trip, don’t have room to “hang” any shoulder mounts. I’ve seen some beautiful zebra rugs that would be perfect , any other plains game that lends itself into being a rug, throw blanket candidate? Thanks

Pedestal mounts use no wallspace, and take up less floorspace than rugs FWIW. Any of the cats can be made into rugs.

I have quite a few hides that are used as drapes over armchairs and sofas….. Rear halves work well.

I decided many years ago that very few animals would become shoulder mounts. Mostly euro mounts and hides, expense, wall space, floor space, and maintenance were all issues. Kudu is rather plain to the unknowing eye, but to someone that knows they’d pic it right out. Waterbuck seems to be a thicker haired animal and the white circle on the butt is a good identifier.

Pedestals are a great way to go if you have the floor space... Along with the Kudu and Waterbuck recommendations, Blue Wildebeest, Giraffe and Nyala all make for distinct rugs too, although, I'm not sure how much foot traffic they could handle. Have fun on your trip and take more pictures than you think you should!!!

Wish I could carry your luggage. Maybe one day I might get to go.

Thanks Take a look at the Cull hunts offered on the next HHI Handgun Hunters International Africa. Lots of animals hunted, no taxidermy bills, really good pricing. That’s the one I chose for this next upcoming trip.

That distinct "Donut" on a Waterbuck is the ideal rug!

I quit doing the taxidermy thing around 12-15 years ago -- after spending a lot of money on shipping/clearing customs/taxidermy bills, ect. It's been a good decision and I have no regrets. My wife and I have no children so when we pass, nobody wants (or has room) for a pile of mounted heads, full body mounts, ect. For the past several years, I come home with good photos and memories -- and that works for me. Your mileage may vary. When I go to the nursing home, there won't be room for any mounts but I can show photos...

You get two to three times the hunting when your helping cull critters.

I went to Africa one time when I was 22 years old, I didn’t forget anything there I need to go back for. I was in Somalia with the 24 MEU, I’m sure your trip will be better and more hospitable. 😂

I despise North Africa after my service there, but the Southern African Countries are far more hospitable
