Guess Where?

I had to make a special run today, some of you will know where I went, it's 55 miles from my house. Anyway I had a fun day, took one of the many back roads coming home & shot a few ground squirrels on the way back. The grass in all of the meadows is really high so I didn't see very many but I did manage to get 5 with my 8 shot Blackhawk 327 & my Bobby Tyler custom 45 Auto Rim built on an old 3 screw 357. I was using 118 gr HP's in the 327 & quite a bit of H110. In the AR I like to use the Skeeter load of 7.5 grs of Unique with a 233 gr big HP, it's nasty on squirrels.
I could only recover 4 of the 5, one of them got stuffed back down his hidey hole from the big 45 HP. I like taking photo's in these old cabin windows & I found a handy nail to hang my Barranti shoulder rig from, it's still serial #1 & still going strong after all these years. The 3 old structures are a horse barn, a cook shack & a bunk house, if only they could talk!

Yep, a trip to see Bob,, and the mandatory bathroom break, before the ride back.

Yup, that was in the bathroom at Freedom Arms, problem was Bob wasn't there, he was at a long range handgun shoot in Sundance, Wyoming so I missed him. Anyway it was a fun day & all of the country going home on the backroads is very remote, all of the valley's are the same, wide grassy valleys filled with cattle (used to be Buffalo) then mountains on both sides & then more valleys for miles & miles.
Years ago this valley's had homesteaders & ranchers that would somehow survive the harsh winters & eke out a living with just teams of horses, plows, wood burning stoves & hope. I didn't make it over there but some of the old cabins had rifle barrel slots in the walls in case someone showed up with bad intentions. In the first photo you can see an old wood burning stove outside of the homestead just to the right. And in the third photo you can see a fresh Badger hole but if he was home he had his head down.

About 80 years ago or perhaps a bit longer my uncle & aunt had a home at the base of the mountain in the first photo. Their 2 kids, a boy & a girl rode a horse across the valley to a one room school house in photo two, rain or shine, even in the winter.
I'm standing in the driveway of the school which later became a two room school & was finally closed about 15 years ago & now the kids are bused to Soda Springs. The kids that live on down the highway go to school in Wyoming & Idaho pays for them. The last photo is looking back towards the mountain where my uncle & aunt lived, I think the distance was around two miles.
