Elk Stag Grips

I bought some elk stocks for a square butt K frame from an ebay seller recently. I tried them on today. Decent to good fit and nice, evenly matched panels. Handsome stocks.

But they are clearly not stabilized. They are rather porous in places - just on the inside and on the bottoms. Are these worthless without being stabilized? There is a return window...

Can they be stabilized, or is it too late for that? I am inclined to keep them, as the price was very reasonable - unless advised otherwise.

stick some masking tape over the butt and flood the pith with super glue. 3-4 little tubes per panel should do it. Space each tube out so it can cure before adding another. clear epoxy would work too but it won’t penetrate as far as the super glue.

Happy to help. they’re a nice set, I’ve always liked elk like that as it reminds me of mammoth ivory.
