Wouldn't mind the target version myself. I've always been wary of cheap guns, but with the high opinions of the distinguished gentlemen here, I have to get one now.
This forum continues to delay my retirement.

Mine broke it's transfer bar but I ordered a replacement cheap off Ebay. I didn't think to ask for a replacement from CA. There was no Ebay in the early 80's :-( I just discovered they make one in .45 Colt Hmmm...

Should you? Hell yes! They aren't show ponies, they're working guns, and they just plain work. If you take it apart and stone the rub points on everything and lube with good grease they can have a pretty good trigger. Mine isn't for sale...

You gents have sold me on one.

My 2009 Bulldog was pretty rough out of the box. I stoned the hammer and trigger and even lightly hit the pawl. It breaks much cleaner now. And if you shoot them enough, they'll self-polish to a degree. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Definitely planning for one after the latest big purchase gets here, you guys sealed the deal. To sweeten the Bulldog thought pattern I learned Kramer makes their fine holsters for them. Little Bulldog in a pancake behind the hip holster will conceal well, and be a neat package if I need it.

Okay. I did it. Bulldog target 44sp off GunBroker. $400 including tax and delivery.
Now what to load it with? I haven't been a 44 guy for a while. Only mold I still have is an RCBS 250gr swc. No sp brass yet. Load suggestions anyone? I'm not going to push it with this one.

Don't go overboard on the crimp. With Unique my best accuracy came from a light but viable roll crimp.

Don't have any Unique. I don't use it anymore.
I have Universal, Red Dot, and Power Pistol though. Any data on those in the Bulldog?

My poor long suffering Bulldog has had to put up with more of my experimenting and tweeking of loads than anything here. Simple version is it's been pretty forgiving of loads/bullets. I doubt if it's ever been fired from a bench, or at anything beyond 50yds.. I'll just say I've stayed at 6-7grs of Unique, or slightly slower powders adjusted to give similar performance, like PowerPistol and Longshot. Bullets ...180gr FWC's, 205/210gr class RNFP softish cowboy type bullets. Matt's Bullets has a dizzying array of choices of suitable and fun options. I've some of his 135gr little RN with 8shot under them, A mini buck-n-ball load sorts. Shot loads, rice loads, sigh..so much fun. When you get to nom weight or beyond, the recoil climbs, and remember, it is a small gun, it will remind you.

5.5 of Green Dot with the 250 gr Keith also shoots well (at least in my Bulldogs). Goes just under 800 fps from a 3" barrel. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

The lighter ones shoot quite low and the heavier ones are less fun than typically desired with no real benefit. I shot 265s in a 3" for a while when shooting pins and the pins would go straight back off the table and then drop, with a Wiley E. Coyote-like pause before falling. Didn't hurt my time much because I wasn't that good to begin with.
I've gone full-circle, from 200 grain RNs, 208 WC, up to the 265s and am right back where I started - 429421.
Unique and W231/HP38 will do everything you want, but I'm sure there are others as appropriate.
All of my Bulldogs have done 2" to 2.5", 5-shot groups at 25 yards using about any bullet, but the the old 250 grain SWC centers those groups at POA.
